Can't fucking wait. I'm not really surprised that it's not a step forward for the band, considering that we just got HU not too long ago, but it still sounds like it's going to be a good time.

I hope after this they take a bit of a break on making an album, a couple years maybe a bit more, and do another leap forward in their style like they did from PBP to HU.

Thanks for the review, Zad. Glad you like.

Nice honest review.Curious to hear it.On a side note,I didn't realize that past vocalist Christian Älvestam is one of the guitarists in Torchbearer.I LOVE Warnaments, its so beautiful, the guitar work flourished and stunning at times, really enjoyable. That guy is a goddamn fucking musical genius.I think I have a new god..... :omfg:

I'm very skeptical about this, even though Zad doesn't usually disappoint me. I'm very sad at Christian leaving and I wonder how they can come up with something this good after so little time passed since the amazing HU.

I'm looking forward to this, but at the same time trying not to get my hopes too high. I thought HU was amazing and don't want to be let down too much if this album isn't just as good. Thanks for the review.

Zad is spot on. This isn't as immediately awesome as HU, but upon repeated listens to the new songs on the myspace its evident that this is a great successor. And don't worry about Christian--he's a gift to the genre, but the new singers sound almost identical to him (although the fact that they needed 2 singers to do what Christian did alone is a testament to his talent)

Not only that, but they need two singers for touring. Having two (or more) vocal tracks at the same time really does kill the possibility of hearing the tracks truly live in their unchanged glory.

I loved almost all of the past three albums (other than two songs on the first two albums), can't wait for this one. I'm not a fan of mimicking, but hopefully this changes my mind on the subject.

"...but there really should be few complaints from fans as it’s very easy to pretend that Christian is still the vocalist, if that’s the only way you can cope." I haven't listened to all of Christian's other projects, but I'm sure those people can find something among them that they like if they are feeling deprived.

Honestly, Christian is a huge selling point for me on this band. I love their musicianship, and that's definitely keeping me around, but he was really a special vocalist.

These new guys do fine, but I do miss Christian. Thankfully from the tracks I've heard, the music is still as great as ever.

Some of Christian's other projects, such as Miseration, are awesome. Others are ambitious and alright. Scar Symmetry, even without Christian, is still better than all of those other projects

Not trying to be a dick, but I disagree.I'll take Torchbearer's Warnaments any day over Scar Symmetry, though the band has grown on me alot. He's a great,if not fantastic vocalist, but an even better guitarist in my opinion.

Haha, you weren't being a dick at all. Discussion is what the forums are all about.

I'll admit I haven't heard Torchbearer. I've only heard Miseration and Unmoored, and just assumed that most of his other projects are similar. Both of those are pretty good by the way, just not as immediately catchy as SS.

I'll also admit that my main interest in Christian is as a vocalist, so when looking at his side projects, I may have skipped over Torchbearer because he doesn't sing for them (does he?)

Thanks for being cool man.Nah you're correct he only does guitars, and god damn,Unmoored is incredible,at least Indefinite Soul-Extension(the only cd of theirs I own).I didn't know he was in that group as well doing both guitar/vocals no less!Man this guy gets around.Still great bands,we're all the luckier for it! :dio:

Kinda bitter I had to wait until track 4 to get my SS breakdown. =/ Also, they need to let the growling guy growl more. Ah well... So far it's good, but not HU good.

EDIT: Upon further analysis and completion of the album, it definitely gets better as the songs go on. Almost like a build up.

I'm impressed as well. I don't feel that they've missed a beat since releasing their vocalist. This is a great album.

I've listened to Scar Symmetry's new album for the past few days and given it some time to sink in, but I can't help but feel let down.

The new vocalists do a decent job but not enough to make you forget Christian who is simply irreplacable. But in all fairness let's give the new vocalists the benifit of the doubt.

Where lies the major let down is within the music. Although the smoking guitar solos are still present, the riffing is bland and for the most part guitar melodies and interludes gone. This has the effect of making each track sound too similar to each other and not one track really sticks out like some did on past efforts. For some reason the emotion felt on past records seem to be missing. Can this be attributed to the new singers or simply a slump in musical creativity ?

Overall not a bad album but not something i'll be listening too very often. Listening to Dark Matter Dimensions only makes me want to listen to their past catalogue and feel that raw emotion and awesome melodies.
