I never really gave these guys a chance....The only album ive really listened to was "Mutter", and I think I liked 3 songs on that. I might as well give this a try (even though industrial metal/rock isnt something im particularly fond of).

I wish I could be into these guys more, but I was to much a fan of their older works. Reise, Reise only has a few songs I enjoy, but the sound was an obvious change for me. Rosenrot was a complete departure imho continuing the direction the prior album was heading. This new album is more of that same I'd say, and unfortunately the bands knack for nearly all of their songs sharing the same composition/structure has burned me out on them. At least Deathstars have a good album in their older style.

speaking of Neue Deutsche Härte, honorable mentions to Oomph! and Die Krupps who came first but never got the same recognition like Rammstein.

But Rammstein set the tone and won easily as being overall better.

Good review.

Good album, better than I expected after the average single. 80/100

If I thought Pussy was painfully bad, will the rest of the album be any better?

Well I guess it's a good thing there's a new Rammstein album this week? Kinda been somewhat boring lately as far as albums, at least for me. =(

I'm surprised at the high quote...I'm a Rammstein fan, but personally I thought Pussy was fucking awful, even if the video is hilarious. But, sounds like a return to form...I'll have to check it out.

It's a good effort, perhaps not worth the 4 year wait but at least it's a sigh of relief after the bloody awful 'pussy'. My advice is to get the deluxe edition with the 5 extras tracks as a couple of these are crackers. replace 'pussy' and 'Weiner Blut' with 'Halt', 'Fuhre Mich' and 'Donaukinder' and you'll have a more rounded album...well, it works for me at least.

What's so dreadful about Pussy, manfully avoiding the legions of jokes I could have made? And yes, the rest of the album is much better. As I think I said in the review.

When I brought Oomph! and Die Krupps, I expected to have some discussion going about it but anyway, I would like to add something.

Did any of you guys ever listen to Oomph!'s first three albums? Mostly the albums Sperm and Defekt, both excellent and a bit more aggressive than anything Rammstein ever did. Remind me of Skinny Puppy Rabies and Ministry Psalm 69. Good stuff.

How could Links be written in response to a criticism of Mutter if Links is the second track off of Mutter?

Reading what I said again:

Quote:
being accused of NeoNazi sympathies, one reviewer famously calling Mutter “music to invade Poland to”, leading to the song Links-2-3-4 being written as a response to such claims

I see that the middle bit shouldn't have been there. I tend to chop and change reviews a fair bit, and clearly that got left in a place where it doesn't make 100% sense. When I was checking it, it seemed ok... meant that they were accused of NeoNazi sympathies (one review famously calling etc) and Links being a response to the NeoNazi sympathies and not the reviewer.

It made sense in my head at the time.

This is the third Rammstein album I've really attempted to get into and it will be my last. Their music just does nothing for me. Oh well.........

Some songs are ok but really not worth all the hype. It is probably also the most overquoted band in this site....

I started listening to Oomph! during their Plastik album era (harking a major change of pace and direction from the trio). Defekt is better than Sperm, but some of the songs aren't nearly as good as ones that you'd find on Unrein. Overall, I like Oomph! better than Rammstein only because they were one of Rammstein's main influences (you can look that up, its true) and their musical style has evolved in a good way. Rammstein came out of the blocks firing on all cylinders practically, whereas Oomph! only became well known or "famous" in European circles with their single Augen Auf (around 2005). Oomph! makes better music than Rammstein, but Till is a beast on vocals. His voice and vocal style carries the band. Then again so does Dero......
