you were too merciful on the review Dan, I saw them on MTV once and was instantly well this is for the same crowd that likes bands like Daath and Diecast.

I don't really know neither Daath nor Diecast, but after indulging into some Myspace listening:

- Threat Signal is an infuriated bulldozer compared to Diecast, which is exactly the boring sort of Metalcore I wouldn't waste my time with.

- the 3 samples from Daath's latest album, "The Concealers", are not that bad after all, definitely a whole lot better than the sample from "The Hinderers" which scored 55/100 on MR; I still wouldn't compare it to "As I Lay Dying" or "Threat Signal", which are much more refined in aggressiveness and music writing, but I spot some real potential lurking beneath the surface there

Yes indeed, 13 tracks is a lot for a Metalcore album and this is what ultimately makes the songs repetitive and drives the listener away.

I never really care for Under Reprisal but I guess if you're saying As I Lay Dying is refined in any way whatsoever than I guess you might like Threat Signal.

Don't like this band, to be honest. Fear Factory for metalcore kids, which is about as unnecessary as it's possible to get.

Except these guys have interesting riffs, good guitar leads, and a competent vocalist. I liked Under Reprisal quite a bit so I'll check new one out.

Why do you have to go and say things like that which make me have to go re-listen to this in case I missed something?

Listening to it again it's not as good as I remembered. Or I dunno. It's pretty sweet but clean vocals could use some improvement.

It seemns like reviewing/recommending is all just a question of authority:)

I just know noodles' taste. I don't know yours all that well. Sorry. Would you trust your friend or the random guy on the street more?

I was just teasing you, hope you don't get it the wrong way. Please accept my apologies if there was anything offending in my observation.

The thing is that you're basically right. The less costly way - although maybe not the optimal one in my view - is to stick with recommendations from people whose tastes you know and to which you can relate.

As far as my tastes are concerned, my profile on MR can give you some fair hints about them. But when reviewing stuff I try to dissociate from my tastes as much as I can and try to focus on the elements that make the album worthy of giving it a spin, if I can find anything in it that fits this description. From this perspective the latest Threat Signal is a good album even if I will never listen to it again; I'm not particulary into Metalcore and there's simply too much other good stuff out there that I still have to check out. But it's only fair to admit that it's a good album and therefore some people wouldn't want to miss it.

No worries, guy. I'll check it out and will be re-reading your review to try and notice what you think stands out.

I think you're wrong. Fear Factory does this same style but much better.
