Yeah. I'm not seeing this progression as a good thing. Yeah this was the beginning of what they would later become yet it blows. None of the songs are interesting and it plods along without ever picking up. I haven't given early Immortal prior to this quite the proper listen but compared to SoND, DiB or even the newest one this album isn't worth listening to at all.

I've always loved this album, for reasons I can't explain. Something about how utterly over-the-top it is, I guess.

Haha, yes, this is definitely their most over-the-top record. Battlefields and Frostdemonstorm are so ridiculous that I gotta love 'em though.

I think it's a great album. The only thing keeping it from being even better is the production. Still a fun one to spin every now and then, though.

Meh, I usually don't mention production in reviews of BM albums, as that is pretty much the least most important aspect of the music.

I can get past it about 99% of the time, but the production on this album doesn't have the same charm as some of the other shoddier older BM productions. It's hard to describe.

Every time I've sat down to listen to this one in its entirety, at the end I come to the same question: Is that it?? And that has nothing to do with the rather short length of the album. Listening to this album, I get the feeling Abbath and Demonaz were simply in a rush to release a new album rather than focusing on the traditional sound & feel of the classic line-up or the blackened thrash approach of the Abbath, Horgh & co era material. Especially disappointing seeing as its the last with Demonaz on guitar.

Now bring on the All Shall Fall review!!!

It would be hard for them to focus on the blackened thrash approach when this was THE first Immortal album to begin to incorporate that style..

I think I might have misworded what I wanted to say when noting this album as the link between the two eras.

What I meant was that this is not nearly as focused of an attempt as anything before or after. I think Abbath and Demonaz themselves addressed this in some interview stating that the general idea for Blizzard Beasts ended up being to play as fast as possible with little regard to the rest.

Yeah, that's true... but then again, this was a highly experimental album, and if it hadn't existed then Heart of Winter, Sons of Northern Darkness, etc. Probably would have never existed... that's the main reason why I scored it so high. Plus, I really dig the style anyway, though clearly it bothers several others.
