I get the feeling Abbath and Demonaz were simply in a rush to release a new album rather than focusing on the traditional sound & feel of the classic line-up or the blackened thrash approach of the Abbath, Horgh & co era material.
It would be hard for them to focus on the blackened thrash approach when this was THE first Immortal album to begin to incorporate that style..
I think I might have misworded what I wanted to say when noting this album as the link between the two eras.
What I meant was that this is not nearly as focused of an attempt as anything before or after. I think Abbath and Demonaz themselves addressed this in some interview stating that the general idea for Blizzard Beasts ended up being to play as fast as possible with little regard to the rest.
Yeah, that's true... but then again, this was a highly experimental album, and if it hadn't existed then Heart of Winter, Sons of Northern Darkness, etc. Probably would have never existed... that's the main reason why I scored it so high. Plus, I really dig the style anyway, though clearly it bothers several others.
