I checked this band out because of the female vocalist who has done some incredible stuff with Dragonland. But this is just horrendous. Tried to like it, but damn. Not cool. Would easily have been crap of the month for me. That's just my two cents though, glad you liked it Chris.

Like I said, it will probably be a love or hate affair...

Hate here. I always agree with you Chris, but this time it seems not. Perhaps a "crap of the month" would be too harsh, but it deserves no more than 60 in my opinion.

Just my two pesos.

It's decent but not worth the score of 90.

I'd wife the female singer though

Listened to their single Hunger... :lame:
nothing really interesting it's like Shakira metal lol. The female vocalist is damn HOT though. So they have at least one good thing going for them.

an here's another one Amaranthine which sounds better than hunger.

they certainly seem to have a nice potential but nothing extraordinary so far.

Yeah, I'm with you. I heard they had Dragonland's guitarist and was all over it... then my ears started bleeding.

Sorry Chris, not my thing at all.

I was visiting some friends in Japan a month ago, and heard the first track "Leave Everything Behind" while chilling in a rocker bar. With the alcohol and fun party atmosphere, we were like, "Holy shit, this is AMAZING!!"

We demanded the DJ play another one by this mysterious band Amaranthe, and "Hunger" came on. We couldn't believe it.

We were saying things like, "This is the best band I've never heard of!" and "This is the next Ecliptica!" (as far as being an explosive debut album that's so ridiculously good, it defies logic).

And you know what, those songs ARE very catchy and fun, and clearly metal.

But then when I got home, I listened to the album straight through and... well it's pretty repetitive. The good songs all sounds alike and the bad songs all sound alike.

I think "Shakira Metal" actually is a pretty good term, though not necessarily a negative one. Shakira's a good artist, and if you can make an awesome pop-metal album, there's nothing wrong with that.

However, this one just loses steam too fast on repeated listens. I really wanted this to be the next Ecliptica, but I have a feeling I'll probably forget about this one soon enough.

Props for reviewing it, though. Hopefully on the next album, they'll mature a bit (if the girl doesn't leave them for a better paying pop career) and release a classic.

I agree that this is not that good. It`s not ultra awful but certainly not worthy of a 90 score.

The again not knowing the band i expected something like Epica. Boy was i disappointed

You guys should review the new Lacuna Coil. I think it's pretty good. It reminds me of Comalies. It's Pop/Rock/Metal, but it's actually pretty heavy, well composed, and catchy. I have been listening to it quite a bit lately. I haven't listened to this album, but I just want to say that sometimes we will have different opinons on where we draw the line with what is metal so just relax. I personally feel that we are seeing too much Sludge and Doom out there. I really can't stomach alot of drone metal these days. Life's too short. Gimme something I can sink my teeth into like Brutal Truth, Riot, Amorphis, TFD, Beaten to Death, ANB, Iron Savior, Slough Feg, and Goatwhore. New Moonspell soon!!! whoooo!!!
