I remember going into my Uncles room, while he was at work, I was maybe seven or so and putting in "Holy Diver". Or the long drives to Kingman where I would just pop in Mob Rules or Heaven and Hell, I can honestly say I'm going to miss hearing his voice. Dio was/always will be the definitive vocalist of heavy metal, and it hurts to see him taken from us so soon.. R.I.P Dio

For me, Dio was part of my introduction to metal. I had this neighbor that has plenty of old 70s rock and 80s metal and stuff.

One day I went through his stuff while my father was babysitting his kid and I found Dio's "Strange Highways". I loved the artwork. I kind of "borrowed" it without him knowing...

Well, that was it. I can't even tell how often and how long I've listen to the first three songs on this album. Firehead is still one of my favorite Dio songs but then again, I guess it's because SH was my first Dio album. Now I have all Dio albums and Heaven and Hell and it still rocks my place!

Ronnie will always be a rock legend.

RIP, Ronnie James Dio... the Holy Diver and Master of the Moon. :dio:

Dehumanizer was my first introduction to the voice of Dio and I remember thinking he was one of the most intense vocalists. As Long As It's Not About Love from Magica is one of my fav songs. He had an amazing range and sang his songs with conviction and emotion. The metal world will miss him a great deal. RIP Dio. :dio:

The first album i owned was Holy Diver, i was 7 or 8 years old and went with my dad to a record store, i remember being very excited because he told me he would buy me a tape, i knew nothing about music so i just chose the ones with the coolest artworks i could find, it came down to three albums: Holy Diver, Appetite for Destruction and the other one was a Maiden album but i cant remember wich one, i went with Holy Diver and it literally changed my life, thank you Ronnie for all of your music.

It is good to read about other people's first Dio experience. The first Dio fronted album I heard was Holy Diver. It was long before I was into metal, but it was also what got me into metal. I think I was about 13 or so.

It's amazing how many people loved this man.

A group of people I know, absolutely none of whom are metalheads, threw a Dio memorial party two nights ago and got drunk and played nothing but dio/sabbath/rainbow.

There's only so many metal artists who could do that. RIP.

Saw Dio during the Holy Diver tour, in sunny (haha) Santa Cruz, CA...was fucking awesome.
His physical body is gone, his soul now treading whatever paths lie beyond this material plane, but he didn't live his life in vain; Elf, Rainbow, Black fucking Sabbath, his own solo project, Heaven and Hell... an earthbound star no more, The Man On The Silver Mountain has earned his seat in The Pantheon.

One final :dio: to ye, sir, for the road.

My first Dio experience was in 1980-1981, moreless. My old brother putting a tape of Rainbow's On Stage... and that voice, especially in "The man on the silver mountain", trapped me.

Beautiful eulogy dude.

The first time I heard Dio was on vh1 rocks 5 or so years ago where they played the Holy Diver video and besides thinking how hilariously rad the video was, I was totally blown away by the amazing voice, killer riff and awesome as fuck lyrics. A little while after that I bought the Holy Diver album, and it just blew my mind, with not a second of filler to be found. My favourite track of his will always be Don't Talk to Strangers :dio:

Growing up, 8 or 9 years old, my stepdad had Holy Diver yet my mom didn't want me listening to it so he let me sneak hearing Rainbow in the Dark every so often. Then one night when they weren't there I listened to the whole album and felt so rebellious. And yeah I loved every minute of it.
