Agreed. A total return to form. I'd expect nothing less than awesome from this line up and they delivered.

I thought this was a pretty paint-by-numbers affair, blatant in its attempt to recapture their glory days. It's good, but pretty lifeless compared to the albums and time they were trying to recreate.

Wow, I didn't even know Fear Factory already had a new album out. Being a fan of Demanufacture and Obsolete, I'm definitely going to have to give this a listen.

And Gene Hoglan on drums? Consider me sold!

First video, not my first choice for one but oh well. Kickass track. And a guitar solo.

That might be the fastest Fear Factory song since 1992.

Certainly kicks Slave Labour's arse. Everyone that went, oh yeah, that was a good song will be bowled over by Mechanize.

slave labor and cyberwaste are better than anything on this album imo. Oxidizer comes close. But as a whole this one is certainly better.

I'll agree to disagree on SL, but Cyberwaste? Really?

nothing will ever beat Obsolete, but I'm glad the band is still packing the punch after all.

Solid album. Final Exit is a great closing track.

The whole album can be streamed on Youtube. Overall, it's pretty good. But it sounds like Fear Factory was just trying to retread Demanufacture, without really doing anything new or different. The band basically does nothing on Mechanize that they didn't already do every bit as well on Demanufacture. Resulting in a somewhat stale listen akin to Slayer's Divine Intervention.

I disagree there - overall, it's closer to Obsolete than Demanufacture, more groove than thrash. For a band like FF, making an album like that is far better than trying something new and ending up with another Transgression - I notice that you praised the new Overkill wildly, and yet disparage FF, when the two bands have made great albums that reference their past somewhat.

I think they've done more than make a carbon copy of their past, anyways - Final Exit, having a guitar solo, the general heaviness and dips into death territory, little things, sure, but they add up.

I'm just describing what I personally got out of Mechanize when listening to it for the first time this morning. Over time, I may grow to like it more (as I did Divine Intervention). Unfortunately, I probably won't be buying it for at least another few months, since I still have a few 2009-released albums I need to buy first.

S'cool, I found it a bit underwhelming too at first. Two or three listens down the line however, and you'll be YOU WANT WAR YOU GOT WAR MORE THAN YOU BARGAINED FORing like a nutter. :)

Maybe I'll have to give it a few more spins, then. Just gave about half the album a listen now and got bored with it. It seems like Fear Factory's intentions are good... But like... The heart isn't there. I don't really know how to explain it.

It is their best since Obsolete but that's not saying much.

Ya exactly. That's how I feel so far.

They've done death metal already. And Demanufacture is full of groove!

It's hardly the old-school Death of SOANM, is it, though? And Obsolete was groovier.

I am correct in thinking that this is the first time they've ever had a guitar solo, right? Is that really such a little thing?
