Was a good album nothing more nothing less, I loved the titletrack of all the songs though. Haha, good ole' stripped down rock and roll. Great review

I was really happy with this album after thinking We Are the Nightmare was super disappointing. They started doing the stuff I like about them again (catchy, melodic, sometimes vicious and slightly technical death metal with strong NWOBHM/heavy metal influence) and got a groovy drummer back rather than the horrific tech doof that was on Nightmare. It's a more fun album than A Celebration of Guilt or United in Regret, which is cool since I've been digging more fun metal rather than negative or emotionally intense stuff lately, but it doesn't get the skin tingles going quite as often as those two albums do. I like the album's rockin side but a couple moodier songs like "All the Things She Said" or "Closer to Cold" would've been great. 80/100 seems like the right score.

The Things You Said*

I knew that didn't sound right.

This just isn't my cup of tea. Glad there are fans that can enjoy this though.

Really like this album. After going back and remembering how bad the drums were on Nightmare, this album seems so much better. Sick Perfection is amazing.

I'm going to challenge you on the lyrics criticism. I think the lyrics are actually really good on this unlike their other stuff. Minus Forced to Rock which is obv a silly track with its ode to hair metal. A lot of the issues addressed by Malone are serious issues for eating disorders and I think he wrote a pretty awesome album. Oh and the past song titles as random lines in the song get kinda annoying.

Yeah, I definitely noticed the past song titles were used often in several tracks, as was Starve's title.

And I think with my criticism of the hokey lyrics I was only looking for places to nitpick, because other than a few spots that you already mentioned, they're mostly mature. Hardly world-class, but definitely not bad.

It's a remarkably solid album though, and really hard to find flaws with.

I loved this album. James Malone is great at what he does. I'd love to see them live again.

imo Arsis' lyrics are solid. I'd say they're actually better than the average DM bands in most cases but you can actually hear all of them. I like how he reuses phrases 'cause geeky "tie everything together" shit is neat.

The only one that irritates me is 'the promise of never' it's literally been on every album since ADFD. It was in the song ADFD and in the track "the promise of never". It just kills me every time I hear it 'cause honestly I'm not really sure what is meant by it.

I dunno. As a melodeath nut I do not really get a lot out of this album. Maybe I need to spin it again. I thought We Are The Nightmare was kinda a step in a new direction and something they should have maybe applied more polish too and continued with. This seems a bit more by the numbers.

The musicianship is great, of course... It just lacks a little heart like their past albums have had, IMO.

Really? I thought this album had more heart than anything they'd done since A Celebration of Guilt. We are the Nightmare in particular is one of the most soulless metal albums I've ever heard; extremely impressive on a technical level, but lacking any heart whatsoever.

I guess I disagree.

Well the feeling you get from an album is really subjective.

He is a very intelligent guy, very well spoken as well.
