I totally disagree with this review. I think this one is just as good as Guitar Gangsters and has some really great songs like Fallen, Mirror and The Ripper, Thanks, etc. How can you say the song Heaven and Hell sounds too poppy? Volbeat has been doing this style on every album, some songs are heavier than others, but I don't think "poppy" is the right description. The only thing I can't stomach is the vocals on "Evelyn" from the guy from Napalm Death, which to my ears are "cringe-inducing". The chorus is pretty good though, otherwise I'd skip it.

I'm glad you like the album, more power to you, but for me it sounds much weaker than their past two. Definitely a disappointment. Everything on this album just sounds like a re-hash of material from Rock the Rebel or Guitar Gangsters.

But really, you don't find the riffs on Heaven and Hell poppy? Nickelback is heavier than that.

Dude, this is Volbeat, were you really after three albums expecting them to do something dramatically different? They have a sound and it works for them. I don't think it sounds like a re-hash, just more material in a similar vein. I think Heaven and Hell sounds more commercial than other songs but I don't think that qualifies as "poppy". Pop music to me is crap like Britney Spears or Justin Bieber. I happen to like the song, it's catchy and very memorable. Some people consider "Radio Girl" poppy as well, but I think that's a great song too.

Yeah, this is definitely pop music with heavy guitars. Sorry.

Gotta love when a band gets too popular. All of a sudden, they've changed. This is Volbeat, pretty much doing the same thing they did on the past three albums. If this album is poppy, so were their last three.

But there's the problem. It's far too much of the same. The album is way too predictable and a lot of the melodies are recycled from other songs of theirs. And sure there are still heavy moments, but the poppier bits are more mainstream than anything they've ever done. Which wouldn't be too much of a problem (like you all have said, this is mostly the same ol' Volbeat) if I didn't find this album to be so... I dunno. It just feels tired. I'm glad to see that at least some people like it, though.

I like it, just as I liked their past albums, but I agree with the review and score. It's a fair to good album, not a great album. And it has nothing to do with how popular they are. Do people actually keep up with how popular metal bands get?
