Perfect score for this I believe this is the best Soulfly album in a while.

Funny. I didn't even know Soulfly had a new album out. In fact, I was kind of under the impression Max disbanded the group so that he could focus on Calavera Conspiracy.

Anyway, even though I've never been a big fan of Soulfly, I'll definitely check this album out. It sucks that, because of their nu-metal label particularly on the first two albums, a lot of metal fans completely ignore Soulfly. All the while, not realizing that, after Primitive, they gradually moved further and further from the nu-metal label with every album. Now, they're a modern groove/thrash band.

They were never nu-metal, though. I don't care what anyone says.

Looking forward to this new album.

Great album. It's better than Dark Ages, as to how much better, though, it will take some more listens.

It's the best Sepultura album since "Inflikted". :D

Haha, it's really after Dark Ages and Inflikted the closest thing to Beneath the Remains since Arise. :)

And if we are honest, even Chaos AD was more Soulfly, than Sepultura - but this stuff is to 90% nearly old school and how a modern Sepultura Album should sound like.

At this point I gnash my teeth without any other due course other than to be malicious...

(My opinion, my opinion, my opinion, my opinion, my opinion, my opinion, my opinion, my opinion. my opinion. my opinion)

I have listened to Blind Guardian because of this site. I am not a fan of the Hobbits, so I believe this band is a pile of shit. Sorry, my opinion... Next I listen to Nevermore... I like them, but 90+ for each album they release? No way. Sub-par 'Maiden for me. Then I tried Darkthrone... Is it me, or is Black Metal, as a genre, an under-produced series of garage bands trying to be evil, whilst assuming their own fantasy that they are actually 'evil'...? Fuck that cold 'ambiance' and pretentious bollocks!.. Grow up, tune your guitars better, get someone who can sing and write lyrics that matter!

Finally, I listen to Soulfly's latest album... I am an old school thrash metal fan and old enough to remember the 80s thrash scene before torrents, the internet and even Cds were around... Essentially, I feel my own personal pretension that I am a 'metal guru' fall away with 'Conquer' because I love old Sepultura, but have realised that the music which is suddenly the best around is the sort straight in front of me from the 'commercial' old school sound, plus, finally, I have a realistic and logical follow up to Chaos AD, one of the best Metal albums in all time (And I know I commented how much I enjoyed the Cavalera Conspiracy way back in Jan and said more or less the same thing, but I am so glad that that project and album has been bettered by a band I had written off a long time ago!)...

I am so glad that decent and (and in my opinion) better old school bands have jumped back over the ropes... Slayer, Machine Head, Megadeth, 'Maiden and now 'Max' have released their best albums since the 'good old days' in the last few years... Avoiding the 'one up-man-ship' of trying to discover some obscure Nigerian 'Glam-industrial-black' metal bands, I am advising everyone to pick up this album because (IMO) it is by far the best album of the year!

Commercial? No! Simply because Soulfly is a band that potentially over 25% of the average souls on this planet may have heard of doesn't mean the fans of 'obscure' metal should turn their noses up against this album... This fantastic album is worthy of your attention... 'A+' for the first true time this year!

Oh, by the way, I have had a few beers and apologies for paragraph 4 and it's illiterate lack of sense... Metal rules!

Oh.

On a more on-topic note, I really dig this album. Doesn't sound like nu-metal at all. I can't say the same about their previous releases, as I haven't heard them yet.

Do you really think Nevermore sounds like Maiden, sub-par or not?

I saw this album at work and threw it into a box because I saw it was from 2008 and was actually at Future Shop.

God dammit.

Even Enemy Ghost turns out to be a kickass track in the end! This will probably make it to my Best Of list.

Scott, try Dark Ages for some zappy yet samey-sounding Thrashiness and Prophecy for some groovy world-reggae-dub-stuff experimentation. Before that (Soulfly, Primitive, III) tread with care.

Mentalmark! Thought you might like this, agreed about the old school bands being badass, not so sure about Nevermore sounding like Maiden.

I'm shocked at the amount of Soulfly listeners on this site.

After hearing good things about this album, I want to give it a listen... But see... Songs like " Jump Da Fuck Up " Or whatever were beaten into my head in highschool years ago when that song and whatever CD it was first came out, by the groups of hardcore kids who thought they were the greatest band ever. I imagine there's been improvement since then, though.

I'm going to assume most are not fans of their full discography, ie: they liked Dark Ages and this, probably or at least in my case.
