Good review. At first I was kind of skeptical of the band because they do indeed sound like a BG clone, but what the hell, this album kicks ass. The chorus of the title track is great and just damn fun to listen and sing-a-long to. I'd rather listen to an unoriginal band that can write good songs than some progressive blackened jazz fusion band that's sole claim to fame is originality.

You just don't appreciate good songwriting that doesn't rely on choruses, is the trouble. :P

Yes! This new BG album, uh, I mean, Savage Circus, is pretty good! :D

As a fan of their debut album, this didn't really do anything for me. I'll have to pass on this release.

There's a fair chance it's just me and where my taste in music currently is at though.

I agree with this review. There's nothing wrong with sounding like classic Blind Guardian, in the absence of new Blind Guardian. This is another fine release that i'm glad I shelled out for. I recommend it to anyone who likes classic Power Metal.

Agree with the comments and the review. Awesome album. I can't believe I passed this up last year.

I was expecting something that sounded like BG .. but wow, i wasn't expecting being unable to tell the difference. It's very good tho.

EDIT: screw it .. this is better than current BG

Is it just me or there hasnt been much progress in Savage Circus? It's been 4 years and it sounds very much like their first one...

This is definitely gonna be worth a listen.

and for the record, I am not a BG fan at all. They're production gets on my damn nerves. I have never heard SC, but I enjoy Persuader, so I hope they produce the albums the same instead of harmonizing the vocals so much that they have no key.

I'm listening to it on Rhapsody right now (man, Rhapsody got good once they added metal labels!) The vocals have some harmonized/multitracked choruses but the main melodies and song pace are much more like pre-Nightfall stuff. It's not nearly as "produced" as Opera or Myth.

Loving this so far--the first album gets more play from me than the last two Blind Guardian albums combined...

Seconded. I was hoping for that same level of I guess energy but this one lacks that or perhaps its the songwriting being different but either way I miss the great song hooks of the debut. I need to give this more listens.

I'm almost hearing more Iron Saviour in this than Blind Guardian. Barring the guitar sound of course.

So basically that's like saying you like turds, as long as they're polished.

No, that would be the case if I said all I cared about was production. I said I liked good song writing. Nice try though.

I agree with this.

A blackened jazz fusion band could write good songs though

but that's pretty unlikely.

Just like a blackened disco band could.
