This is disappointing. I've only heard Flies & Lies, which I enjoyed immensely. Part of me wants to check this one out anyway, but the review makes it seem pretty bad.

I'd say go for it, or at least listen to Fire Ants on their MySpace. If you're not completely put off you might enjoy the rest of the album. It's definitely closer in style to Flies & Lies than it is to Tales From Sadness, though, so I think you have a chance of enjoying it.

Yeah, when I saw this review was up backstage earlier today, I dug up tat Flies & Lies which I remember enjoying 3 years ago or so. Not so much now, so I guess I will be dropping this.

Flies & Lies was a pretty solid album, and this one just poops all over it. It's like all the originality and touch that they had on the first album was thrown out the window.

It's a real shame, these guys weren't amazing but it was something a bit fresh and enjoyable. This album sucks.

Reading back through my review I thought it might be helpful to mention that when I compare stuff to Tales From Sadness, I am comparing to an album that I'd probably score at around 85 or so.

Guys, please give this a chance. I'm almost through my first listen (for what that's worth), and I actually really like it.

It is really different from their last two releases. I loved Flies and Lies, and didn't really get into their first album. The debut felt a little "rough" to me.

Psychochromatic has really cool melodies and I, unlike the reviews, find a number of the songs to be unpredictable.

Sometimes you get a melodic driving Final Fantasy XVII motive, sometimes it's a kick ass guitar solo, occasionally a groovy Pantera type riff, and at one point it feels like a dance beat from a Top 40 song.

It's a lot more techno oriented, and the production does feel a little "flatter" if that makes sense. If I could compare the production to something, it would be to Evanescence's early album Origin, where it feels more like it's coming from a studio production than an actual full band. I don't mean this in a bad way at all. It's just a different sound.

I think it's a cool, different listen. I do miss the vocals from the last album, but these aren't bad at all. Instead of his switch from full death growls to soaring clean, we have him in more of a raspy filtered clean, with occasional forays into death growls.

Definitely give this a chance.

P.S.- Check out the song "I Want To Remember." Fucking KILLER outro.

This album rules! Yeah, a definite style change from the FIRST album, but not the last. Essentially, the last album was a mix of the first and this new one, while the new one sheds most resemblance to the first.

Either way, the songs are fucking great. Someday you twerps will realize that's far more important.

Satan's Anus,

We can never reach an peaceful agreement using derogatory words like "twerp."

Please stick to more politically correct terms like "jabroni" and "roody poo."

Your opinion doesn't hold much around here anymore Ken so I would zip it if I were you.

Yeah, because that's why I come here—for acceptance. Pffft!

The songs aren't " fucking great " though. They're pretty weak and boring. At least to me.

If by death growls you mean Metalcore screams . . .

All I remember (ha.) right now of that song is the obnoxious chorus. Apparently I didn't find the outro very good.

Dude, you have to re-listen to the song. If you don't like the outro this time, I owe you a six pack of your beer of choice.

It's nothing spectacular. The awful production yanked the lead guitar down to the bottom of the mix, and the riff while good for this album is not that amazing or even memorable.

Of course. It's a very 90s styled record, and you guys don't dig that shit. But really, if you can get past the fact that this isn't the old Raintime--which was fantastic--and can dig on a more modern, melodic style of metal, then this album kicks ass.

Yeah, you're not going to change any minds here, bro. Haha.

I have some more testimony for this album.

Last night I had a girl over I've been on a few dates with. I'd closed the deal the last time, but for some reason, the sex and foreplay just wasn't going right for this date. I wasn't having fun, and she wasn't having fun.

In the background, I was playing Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory on. Songs about fatal tragedies were not helping the mood.

I switched another album, Images and Words. Not much better

Then I tried Within Temptation - The Silent Force. That didn't help either. Listening to "Forsaken" just made me feel worse. She was about to leave just to end the bitter awkwardness.

Finally, I switched the music to Raintime - Psychromatic.

EVERYTHING got hella easier. No more hangups, and we were able to make love in sweet bliss. It's happy, easy going music that doesn't take itself too seriously.

This album is highly recommended. It gets better with every reason. And yes, the outro of "I Want To Remember" is even better when you're in the middle of some nice pillow talk.

I guess it's good for something then, but somehow I don't think many classic Metal albums are able to do what this did for you.

Then again . . . I do remember once making out while listening to Hvis Lyset Tar Oss.
