I agree that this effort by no means can keep up with their previous releases, but I think that Book of the Dead is one the greatest Metal albums of all time, not just a medicore one. Maybe they did not reinvent the wheel with their riffing and melodies (only have to say "Holy Diver"). But IMO the great no-nonsense diversity in sound and style and the musicianship are exeptional and make the most of other US Power Metal bands looking pale.

I disagree with Ben about Unseen, it might not be their best album and could have had better production, but it is still excellent and high quality album, not "complete forgetability". I actually like it better than the Book of the Dead. Unseen got as much variety as Messiah.
