I agree this is an amazing release from a band i considered almost dead (music wise). It was quite a surprise for me actually. I loved all the songs but i wouldn't go that far an compare it with icon and draconian times.Their best realese since then. It's nice seing bands you like find their way

C'moon "New wave metal", what is that suppose to be?? I never heard Paradise Lost before and I checked the "killer songs" with small audio clips from their website. It does indeed sound quite good, but it sounds like pure gothic metal for me! Very much in vain of To/Die/For or 69 eyes so why invent a new genre while there already is one that fits this kind of music perfectly.

because Paradise Lost is more a metal Depeche Mode than a gothic band like 69 Eyes & co....

Actually since they invented the entire "Goth Metal" genre it doesn't matter what they are called. New Wave Metal is silly though....

Oh and just one more thing (and I love this band, all their different sounds) but 95/100 for Believe in Nothing is insane, Nickelback or 3 doors down have better albums then that "thing". Really a bad album from such a good band, I think even the band would say that. I do know a lot of people that dig it for some reason though.

I like Believe In Nothing better than Host and One Second... but I wouldn't have given it 95, maybe 80 or 85

For me, One Second is much better then Believe in Nothing. I'd give OS 70 and BIN, Host and SFL less. Icon is definitely a classic, and I would say the same about Shades of God and Draconian Times. Curious about the new one though... but I keep my expectations to a minimum.

PARADISE RATES

Lost Paradise 20/100 (this is baaaaad)
Gothic 60/100
Shades of God 55/100
Icon 70/100
Draconian Times 80/100
One Second 85/100
Host 95/100
Believe in Nothing 80/100
Symbol of Life 50/100
Paradise Lost (so far) around 70/100

so the band started very low for me... so far their new album is a sistership to Believe In Nothing and imo a pretty good return after the disappointment Symbol of Life has been... plus, it already grew on me....

the only weak point with Paradise Lost since Believe is Nothing is the total lack of evolution.... after Host I was hoping to see the band try some acoustic or orchestral stuff or anything they didn't do before but they went back to the One Second style and haven't change since then...

but, overall, they're the finest english metal act of these last 15 yerars... :)

I would never give Host a 95/100
in fact I don't listen to One Second and to Host... but it's only a matter of tastes :)

Lost Paradise 65/100
Gothic 75/100
Shades of God 90/100
Icon 91/100
Draconian times 92/100
One Second 85/100 (but maybe my fave of theirs to just listen too)
Host - Never heard becasue I heard how bad it sucked.
Believe in Nothing (45/100) Generic Mod rock, only Fader and one other song is any good, production is crap too.
Symbol of Life 79/100
New one, have not heard yet.

Sorry, but....what a stupid thing to say...really really REALLY stupid thing to say... New Wave Metal...lol...they were goth/doom....now they are Depeche Metal...lolol...and what a great sound it is...

I love their Depeche Metal too... :D

not huge fan though but, seeing as I started with the band, it's kinda miraculous I got to love 'em so much... a great band indeed but one I hardly categorize metal (well since One Second anyway)....

It isn't a stupid thing to say, on Believe in Nothing it is obvious what type of Modern Nu Rock sound they were going for. Even Holmes says in so many words this is a shit album. Trust me, no one is a bigger fan of the band then me, but they blew it on BIN. And the production is crap for that type of music, no slickness at all, not very clean etc. Listen to some Finnvox produced stuff for how to do this type of album right. Hell, Marble Arch - Another Sunday Bright is almost in exact copy of BIN but they get it right with the production, etc...
