Thanks for warning me off of this album. I have one of their previous efforts, but sounds like not much has changed.

I'm afraid I can't compare and don't really want to. Especially if what you say is true.

The problem with VoA is that they went through so many line up changes especially their female vocalists it's hard for them to be consistent with their albums.

Shame their earlier work was good.

Power Metal with female vocals sucks! I guess the only female fronted Heavy/Power Metal band I like is Zed Yago, and maybe White Skull.

NOT!! :P

... although this particular band lacks high quality songwriting skills, and that's why their last few CDs haven't been too great.

Sounds like the "Power Metal" description is throwing people off. From the start, VoA have been "lightweight" power metal, along the lines of Edenbridge. It would never, ever appeal to White Skull or Zed Yago fans.

But if you liked Trinity (VoA's last album), this holds up very well to it. They mixed the new singer a little low and increased the proportion of male vocals, probably to ease her in. And the songs sure as hell do not blend together: New Dawn and Twist of Fate are super-catchy standouts that match anything they've done to date. Obviously, to each his own, but if you're a VoA fan (as I consider myself), then don't let a bad review turn you away from at least listening to some samples.

On the more general subject of female-fronted POWER Metal (with more emphasis on the Power, and no opera stuff), be sure to check out Forgotten Tales and Gwyllion.

That's fair enough, I kinda like Edenbrigde. Still, there's so much great stuff out there right now that I might be unable to hear this soon.

To those who're shouting Dark Moor, have a looky at this lot as well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KpvLMyC4a8o

Not that they sound like them as such, but some more power metal that's quite... power metally and less fluffy.

I've actually heard them before and really don't like them all that much. I think the reason I like the other female fronted bands is b/c they don't sound like females.

Maybe, but I think it sounds more... power metally than the likes of Vision of Atlantis. I should find a better adjective for that.

Basically I think they're like a female fronted Rhapsody in a good way.

I reviewed them, good stuff. Pity the power metal types around here are as snooty as the black metal brethren under all the lace.

(oh sheeeeeeeit)

Well, we can't like everything in Metal. I prefer to listen to Foreign Beggars instead of a female fronted Rhapsody.

Im not personally trying to be snooty. I have listened to one album from them, Trinity, and I just found it to be pretty weak compared to what else is available out there. If I had to compare them to someone, it would be Edenbridge and they are much better IMO.

Goatatron's talking about the Ancient Bards, the band that I posted the video of.
