I only like the first track, which admittedly kicks ass. And... that's it. It would be a 70 to me.

Not as good as Twilight or Oden but still a very enjoyable album with Töck's Taunt and The Last Stand of Frej being my favorite tracks.

Good, but not great. Score is probably about right. I'm seeing them in a couple weeks and I'm very excited. They'll be playing all of Surtur Rising, then coming back and playing a second set of older stuff. Pretty cool.

A bit too harsh on the score, as even a less than mind blowing Amon Amarth is mid eighties. Slaves of Fear is the best track hands down IMO.

This is probably the worst AA record I've heard. Still pretty good though. Got boring more quickly then the others. I've never stopped listening to Asator or Guardians of Aasgard even though I was long bored with those albums, but this one just doesn't have that one song to make me come back to it.

This isn't their best album but still one of the better of their discography. I'm also quite confident that this will be one of the best melodeath albums of the year. I don't agree with people who say they make the same album over and over again. They've tried some new things here and pulled them off. I'd give this an 89. They'll never top With Oden on Our Side, and maybe not even Twilight of the Thunder God, but if they continue making albums of this quality then I'll be more than satisfied.

Some good songs on here. I still feel like this album is a blend of the more gritty early stuff and the more melodic feel of post-Vs. the World. Also would place it above Fate of the Norns and Twilight of the Thunder God. With Oden was better in that there were pretty much no weak tracks on there, whereas this one has one or two. But at this point I don't think any of their future releases will ever match anything up to/including Versus The World. Other than a few songs, it's like they've lost the ability to write really memorable melodic death metal songs.

Still really like War of the Gods and Slaves of Fear, though. Since hearing the whole album I have to add Live Without Regret, A Beast Am I, Victory or Death and Wrath of the Norsemen. All of those would make pretty awesome live songs.

Last Stand of Frej was probably the slowest AA song I've ever heard and while it's ok, it's not what I look for in AA. It's too bad though because the lyrics could have made for a really great and epic song.

Töck's Taunt was good but at the end just went on a bit too long, and I think they need to stay away from allowing songs they want to make "epic" from going on longer than necessary without really going anywhere. Song length with no purpose doesn't necessarily make the song more epic.

Doom Over Dead Man was...meh.

Also, I don't get why people think Twilight of the Thunder God was so good...honestly, the title track was cool and maybe one or two others (actually quite liked The Hero), but rest just got boring after a while. A lot of the songs just sounded way too "sugary." I like that this album isn't as overproduced and have as "sugary" songwriting.

I love them but I hope they can put more creativity into wirting riff and chorus
The chorus of 'The war of the god' and the 'Twilight of the thundergod' is basically the same. The first verse of the ' for victory or death' and the twilight of the thundergod' is the another example of high similiarity. Anyways, they still rule! :dio:

+1

At some point you have to ask yourself .. if you are liking what you hear, it deserves a high score, no?

For me they have lost some of the magic of previous releases, 70 for me.

I never really liked Amon Amarth very much until now. I always get their new stuff but it never really gets me. I like this album because they are finally separating themselves from the rest of pack. I listen to the elite black and viking metal and some others just tend to fall short. For example: I listen to Emperor so why bother with Lord Belial or Ancient. Anyway, this album has some neat stuff going on and a tempo that works with the rhythms very well. The Arials cover is weird, but whatever. I don't like System of a Down anyway. Point is, I listen to this album a lot right now and thoroughly enjoy it. I'll never forget when I saw these guys at Milwaukee Metalfest like 10 or so years ago. The drummer started the song wrong and they had to stop. The singer explained to the crowd that the drummer was drunk. Hilarious!!!
