Melodic death metal? They weren't early on. Hmmm.

What would you call them, then? Swedish Death with melodies? Melodic Death doesn't always equal In Flames.

Make no mistake, these are songs rather than ‘pieces’. Melodeath fans currently awaiting the latest In Flames opus should give Desultory a listen to hear how heaviness and melody can be mixed in an emotionally-effective way without compromising one iota

 In Flames makes the music they want to make, they don't compromise anything.

Anyway, I'll give the album a listen but usually I'm not all that impressed by your favorable melodeath reviews, Zaddington.

Well that's probably because, as your eye-roll shows, we look for different things from the genre. You should dig nonetheless, pretty awesome band.

Yeah I can always do with another solid melodeath album, especially since they're so far and few between anymore.

If only the music In flames "wanted" to make wasn't a slightly heavier version of 30 seconds to Mars they might gain a bit more respect. Though for the original post, Swedish death metal has always had a sense of melody even if the bands aren't classified as meloddeath
