Love love love Veins of God. That song is fucking spectacular. The rest of it is some weird post-metal noise with moments of Big Black and other random shit that isn't black metal. Don't know my general opinion for the album as a whole.
Wow, I didn't even think of Big Black but now that you mention it I'm gonna have to listen to it again and see. I always wanted to get more into that band. Fall of Troy, Sonic Youth, Swans etc. yadda yadda yadda all fit the bill too for influence. What I really like is how much of a reaction this band gets. If you hate this band, hate it down to your guts then that means that it got you to take enough time to notice and even with a record that I don't love, I can respect how 2 people can hear completely different sounds.
I hear an above average minimalist black metal group with a couple cool ideas and plenty of bad ones.
Someone else says that they are the scourge of the earth and simply mentioning another band (Who I already admitted were a much better band) with the slightest of comparisons can cause rage. But that's what makes it interesting and that's what makes reviewing such obviously controversial bands interesting. I might get some insults about my taste or my writing, but I don't claim to have good taste or be a good writer, I just write what I hear even if it makes me look foolish. In the end its just an excuse to talk about music.
I'll probably put the album away and come back to it at the end of the year to see if there is anything still there or if it really is what the metal masses say.
