So, basically, they're Sigh, but not good.

This is a fair score and a decent review. I actually really enjoy Gloomy Lights and Ill Innocence, so I was really excited for this release. It ended up disappointing me pretty badly, mainly for a reason that I don't think is emphasized enough in the review. For both Gloomy Lights and Ill Innocence, the band had a guitarist / vocalist (Mika Penetrator) that I think added a lot to the band's sound. She left before this album was recorded, so we are treated to a two member band with bass, drums, and vocals. I think this really hurts the band's sound and makes the music a lot more boring. Assuming that the album title is not prophetic of what is to come for the band, I really hope they get another guitarist if they record more material / tour.

P.S. To the poster above me, comparing this band to Sigh is totally bizarre, apart from the fact that they're both Japanese and both kind of weird. The music is completely different.

Exactly. they've never been a good band just incredibly boring and an attempt to cash in on novelty. Worthless band along with Boris and Suck O]]

None of the bands Steve mentions are worthless. Fail. And as Deathbomb said, how are Gallhammer anything like Sigh?

Well, being wrong as often as you are, you'd have to think that.

In the interest of changing this subject: hey Goat, which Xasthur have you been listening to lately?

All Reflections Drained had some really brilliant material on it...I'm just finally now really checking out Malefic's last two albums.

Funeral of Being. Also been trying to get to grips with Portal Of Sorrow, but it's quite hard work, very experimental.

Excellent. Agreed on Portal of Sorrow, some of the tracks go nowhere, and yet I think some are really beautiful--The Abyss That Holds the Mirror, Horizon of Plastic Caskets, and the title track in particular. Alternating tracks like Tyrants of Nightmares and A Gate Through Bloodstained Mirrors with this later stuff is really quite startling. Makes me laugh about all those arguments some of has had in the middle of the decade on this forum: some asserted Xasthur would never change and would just make Burzum clone music forever.
