Great album and a good return to form to their thrashiness on War without end, the followup album wasn't bad but this is a good album.

Actually, Steve, I see it quite differently. I don't see this as a return to the first album at all. Let me just preface this by saying I like the new one a lot, just not quite up to the last one.

The second one, Waking Into Nightmares, I saw as an improvement over the first one in every way. Where War Without End was entirely reliant on speed for effectivness, Waking Into Nightmares added variety on so many levels. Besides that, the structures became more interesting, the production was massively improved, the guitar tones and vocals were sicker, it was all better.

It's interesting that you see this as a return to the first one, because I see it as way too similar to the second one. To me, it seems like they realised they were on to a good thing with their fancy new structures and tones and just stuck with it.

I mean, see for yourself. Listen to War Without End and then immediately listen to Waking Into Nightmares. There's clear progression in all the areas I mentioned. Then listen to this one. It's basically a carbon copy of the last one in terms of how the songs play out.

With all of that said, this is still a good album and I would give it an 80 or thereabouts. I was expecting a little more as Waking Into Nightmares was the surprise album of 2009 for me.

I also think it's closer to Waking Into Nightmares, but as I said, starting around track 4 they started bringing in newer elements that mark it as another progression. Either way, all three Warbringer albums are favorites of mine.

And for anyone who doesn't know: I couldn't possibly articulate how good these guys are live. They're seemingly always on the road with somebody or other, so take an opportunity to see them.

I really liked Waking Into Nightmares but this album is a bit of a step back in my opinion. It reminds me of their debut, which I wasn't a huge fan of, only with good production. The new songs would probably kick all kinds of ass in a live setting though. I think I'd score this somewhere between 75-80, personally.

In terms of song structures, this one is much more developed than the debut, but otherwise I agree with you completely, the second one had so much more impact. Good to see I'm not alone, people disagreeing with me all over the net.

Singularity. We'll be there with Dark Funeral in Feb. Next time the keyboards will actually work. We aren't ever using that venues DI boxes again... we found out after the show that the battery they put in was dead which was why we kept on shorting in and out.

the douchebag in the Queensryche shirt.

Yeah, we played with Vektor in June. I grew up with their guitar player, so I've been listening to them since the original 2004 demos.

......cool.

Do you mean David or Erik? Either way, if you ever see them, feel free to tell them they have got a ridiculously huge fan in Australia who would happily pay for signed merchandise.

Erik. I met David around the same time Erik met him. Actually, if you want to get into contact with them about signed merchandise or something just shoot me a pm.

Had not heard these guys before, picked them up yesterday cause they are opening for Iced Earth/Symphony X later this month in Dallas. Damn, one more reason to get excited for the show! Very good album, and nice review.
