I hate to say but many, many modern metal releases are so dull. Technically good, plenty of great musicianship, blah, blah, blah. The genre is overinflated with either scene kids or obscurity which only a handful of 'differentiate-type' metal fans who seek to make their tastes unique.
I know Rammstein are not the best band of their type (check out KMFDM, Atari Teenage Riot, Red Harvest and Faust amongst others), but they do have fun. Metal needn't be about setting churches on fire, getting fucked or anger. Sometimes a bit of fun makes the clouds have a silver-lining...
All the same, this is a weak song but, like the initially dreadful 'Pussy' and 'Amerika', I'm sure it'll grow on me.
I can see your point on this. Certain aspects of Metal does tend to take itself too seriously to the point of becoming a parody of itself (I feel this way about many black metal/death metal groups). On the other hand, I still view metal as the best musical avenue for venting anger, frustration, or thoughts on real world topics like goverment, religion, war, etc..... so perhaps this doesnt affect me to the same extent it does you.
With that said, this single is pretty meh for Rammstein when compared to what they have done in the past. Their last album was pretty good, but I just havent been that into them since I started finding other bands that interest me. I still think Mutter is their high point, and a brilliant album (and all singles they release have to be compared to Links 2 3 4, which is still their best).
