Thanks Zad for the review! I'm really glad to hear of a new full-length so soon (even if I have to wait until November to buy it), and something that continues down the path of previous album.
But how do you review one track 50+ minute recordings? Seems hard to do, but you capture it admirably. I suppose Monolithe emerged out of the funeral doom world, but the band already knew that funeral doom, for all its charms, has severe problems too. So I think this band took some of the riffs and all the ambiance from the genre but sped its music up and added a lot of variety, a lot of plain musicality and complexity, making something far more consistently engaging than a minimalist crawl of sparse riffs.
Monthlithe III was my favorite album of 2012, and I expect the same for this one and 2013.
Anyone interested in this band's otherworldly sound could check out this 10 minute clip of Monolithe's first album, appropriately set to Kubrick's 2001. Even a decade ago they were far removed from the generic, and I'd say they've only gotten better.
