I would have given it a bit higher of a score, but nice, if overdue, review.
It is sad that there will be more people puling and whining about the Evanescence review than there will be commenting on this oft overlooked jewel. Bought this the week it was released and was a bit taken aback by the new sound, but it was still 'head; no mistaking that dirty beer and crank fueled outlaw sound.
One on my all time favorites from a band that very very rarely disappoints.
I actually caught this tour, though I was so plastered I don't remember much about it, except my friend passing out.

Check out Speedwolf/Midnight if you haven't already COTB. As for my two cents, I don't know enough about Motorhead to adequately compare this album to past efforts. I'll have to check it out as well.

"I Got Mine" is an absolute classic . . . for that chorus drenched guitar, and sounding all at once more accessible/mainstream than usual for them yet still totally Motorhead.

Before I followed Motorhead more closely, whenever I would hear that guitar intro I was always surprised to then hear Lemmy's voice come in and I'd remember, oh yeah, this is a Motorhead tune.

This was the second 'Head album I ever bought some 25 or so years ago, and I must admit it did put me off them a little (until I purchased the then newly released '1916' in the early '90s). Saying that, my Motorhead knowledge at the time was limited to 'Overkill' and that one song of theirs, about playing cards, or something (which I remember hearing for the first time in an episode of 'The Young Ones' when I was a wee lad!), so I didn't know this was their 'experimental' phase back when the day was younger for me.

It's taken me a long time to warm to this album (I eventually stocked up my Motorhead discography to know better in time, but often overlooked 'APD' for the more classic 'Head sound), but as I listen to it again (inspired by this review, of course!) after some years of neglect, it's like listening to a totally different album to the one I first remember hearing all those years ago. 'Shine', 'I Got Mine' and 'Die You Bastard!' I've heard live many times over the years, and are stonewall classics, but the album feels more coherent now in my older age. The fire and ice imagery sums it up nicely.

It'll never be my favourite Motorhead album, but it does add something a little different to the classic sound of the band and is well worth having in anyone's collection.
