I like this. Nice music to listen to after a nice April rain shower :dio:

Color me intrigued. I'm not a huge fan of Anathema, having only heard the main classic album of theirs. I'm curious what listeners of traditional doom or even drone think of this. I kinda want a beautiful-sounding doom album if that makes sense.

Like this a lot after an initial listen, pleasant follow-up to WHBWH. Could do without the depressing voice-over about dying in one of the songs, but it's not enough to spoil it.

The last album was one of my albums of the year. I have followed this band since the very begining and what an amazing trip it has been. This is a very special album that makes you think about life and death and spirituality. Strange because I'm an existenstial nihilist, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate beauty, or feel emotion, or constantly wish for something more. We all wish or hope for something more after we die. Some choose to believe it to be true, but the simple fact is that no one knows. I personally don't belive in some of the things this album touches on, but the effect the experiences have on people is real and the feelings they experience are real. The truth is that there are biological reasons for all of the phenomenons experienced in near death experiences. The light people see in near death experiences and the visions that they have are a kind of defense mechanism; like going into shock. Certain hormones are excreted in larger amounts when extreme fear or stress is being experienced. Tunnel vision can occur when blood and oxygen flow is depleted to the eye. This can happen with the extreme fear and oxygen loss that are both common to dying. These biological reasons are rational, but humans are not always rational. We are emotionally driven beings for the most part and this album pulls those emotions from the very core of your existence and makes you feel them. That's what the best music can do and not many can do it. Lee Douglas has a stunning voice with such character and emotion that she has truly become an integral part of this band. I think I'm in love ummm... with her voice. Bravo Anathema!!! If you ever liked Anathema you should really pick up these last two albums. They are defining moments in a amazing career.

Just thought I would share a funny tidbit about this new album from Anathema. I was telling my best friend about how awesome the last two albums have been and he kinda hasn't been able to get into the super mellow direction. So I just had to laugh when the first words on the album are "and I feeeeeeel". I told him that and we both laughed so hard beer came out our nose. I love this band, but it is somewhat comical how much he talks about feelings. He's like your girlfriends best friend that you don't even worry about her screwing cause he's just to nice to ever do something like that. I've followed them long enough to be able to give them some crap.

^That dude is totally screwing your girlfriend.

Just read a review that stated that this was "homo" music. I'm checking it out after this baroness EP.

The female vox borderline a Disney track (I could imagine Jasmine or Simba seeing this stuff) or country music singing. It's awkward.

I liked Judgement and A Fine Day to Exit, but yeah, after that, post-doom Anathema is something I've stayed away from.

Reminds me of Dream Theater minus the musicianship.

Monogamy is a cruel sociological institution anyway. I do agree about the Disney comment too, but I think Jasmine is hot. If you can't accept the direction Anathema has been moving lately you won't like this album. If you have liked any of the last four albums, I am confident you will like this one.

Minus Dream Theater, you mean? It sounds nothing like Dream Theater.

It sounds like Labrie then.

Ok, I listened to some of the album. Definitely not Labrie (without Dream Theater) bad, don't think I'll be listening to it much though.

I respect what these folks do now, just not for me.

This is awesome... with the exception of the first 4 minutes of Calm Before the Storm and the spoken word part at the end... this is almost as good as We're Here...
