Haven't heard anything from this yet but looking forward to picking it up in a couple weeks. Your review confirms my sense from the advance press that this album acknowledges the style shifts on the recent albums, but also swings back toward toward the more overt folks element of the earlier albums.

I, for one, love how they have changed it up from album to album more recently, going a little heavier on The Scythe, a little more melodic/modern and 80s rock influences on Red Silent Tides (not to mention the acoustic album), while still keeping a recognizable sound and retaining some folk trappings. For me The Winter Wake is probably their signature album, but if we were now on The Winter Wake part 3 or 4 of full-on folk/minstrel metal we might be saying that they had run that formula into the ground.

Seems like now was a good time to return to a stronger folk influence after the last couple of twists away from it. Good review.

I like this a lot. I feel like it's what The Scythe should've been.
