A little too enthusiastic a review for my taste but, hey, Van Halen are back and in good form which only makes sense seeing the large amount of old material they recycled for the occasion.
My rate: 75

Why bring that up? Most bands stockpile material.

Van Halen have always "recycled" music. Eddie simply has his wig screwed on somewhat straight these days.

One of the best hard rock releases of 2012 and one of the better VH albums in a long time! It's great to hear them re-work old stuff, mix it in with a few new tunes. The band sounds refreshed and re-energized!

+1

I would much rather hear reworked songs from the VHI and VHII era than OU812. The songs feel like they could have been written somewhere during VHII, Women & Children First, and Fair Warning. It's a great album, good review, and a proper score. Let's just hope that Eddie and Alex don't kill Dave so they can keep this train rolling.

I can't believe what I'm reading!

This new album by Van Halen is complete and utter SHIT!

It's rubbish and their worst album to date...ever. Van Halen have gone far beyond their use by date and need to retire and go away. And this is coming from a Van Halen fan.

David Lee Roth is just a joke of a vocalist, I've never liked him in the band, he was the most inconsistent and crappiest of the vocalists.

Give me Chickenfoot anyday

I don't own any Chickenshit albums and wouldn't even download one for free! It's an "all star" line up with nothing that grabs me song wise. Granted they are fantastic musicians but as a band forgettable for me.

There are many bands that probably should have retired by now yet still continue to crank out some decent material. Considering their ages, I give them a lot of credit to at least still be rockin. ZZ Top, Kiss, Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, just to name a few.

Ok, before I go on with what seems to be an utterly and incomprehensibly wide divide between our opinions, just to check: Have you heard Van Halen III? As in through? Every damn song? More than once? Once I know that, we can continue.

And as far as Chickenfoot, yeah Hagar still has really good pipes love it and all the guys are beasts at their instruments. But in terms of songwriting, simply the tunes? The two Chickenfoot albums have nothing, abso-positivel-utely nothing on A Different Kind Of Truth. That is all on said sidenote.

Excellent album, although it took me a while to appreciate some of the new material because the re-worked stuff sounded so much better at first (esp. She's the Woman .. holy crap). I think a couple of songs could have been left on the cutting room floor, but otherwise a solid effort.

I like Hagar and Roth, but I don't think stylistically speaking Hagar would have worked out as well on this one even though he does have the stronger voice. I think Roth brings out something in Eddie.

One complaint - bass is a bit too high in the mix.

Yes, I have heard VHIII and yes that is shit too....however....I prefered Gary Cherone's vocals over Roth's. I'll never liked Roth's vocals or his king-dick stage persona.

Just my opinion...

Agreed, and all the songs are most definitely not killing songs.
