Yeah, I don't know what happened to Extol. Extol is amazing, especially their earlier stuff, but this in not very good at all. A huge dissapointment in my book, and I can only hope they wake up and deliver another "Undeceived" or "Burial".

I was dissapointed with the album for sure, but I disagree with this review for the most part.

Where the hell did you get emo influences from? There are no emo influences in any of the songs on this album--especially not in the vocals. Not that I would care if there were--an album should be scored on its quality, not its genres.

It's basically a progressive hard rock album with metal influences. It's not bad, but it's definitely a dissapointed considering I had very high expectations for this album.

Nonetheless, they have created some interesting and original rock here.

73/100 from me.

Oh man, I think the clean vox have alot of emo influence in them. I have no idea if that is what the band is going for, but that is what I heard. And while you are right about genre classification not having a direct impact on the quality of music, it does have an impact if the genre influences are not liked to begin with. :-P I guess we are just going to have to agree to disagree on that one, thanks for your comments though!

I have always loved extol, ever since I downloaded one of their songs randomly [I think it was Celestial Completion from Burial], but couldn't stop listening to it. I realized that these guys really hit the nail on the head with this one! I now own Burial, Undeceived [which I tragically lost and want it back!!!], Synergy, and most recently, their latest.

I loved all the albums...and was highly anticipating The Blueprint Dives. Upon the first listen, I would have agreed with all your comlpaints about it.

But for me, first listens are not accurate when it comes to metal. Or, for that matter, any music that I usually come to love in the future.

After many many listens, I now consider it to be great. Its certainly not the thrash fest that synergy was, or the melodic death fest that undecived was, but its sure is melodic and borderline thrashy at parts. Its so many types of music all in one album, and it wa very hard for me, at first, to appreciate it all. But now I've reconsidered, and this album does not detract from Extol being one of my very favorite bands.

I gave this album a 92.

i thoroughly enjoyed this cd, particulary track 1-5, i think it dies down a bit towards the end but i really enjoyed it. If your reading this, dont let the review sway you, give it a listen for yourself. But then again, that goes for all reviews.
