Masterplan is a great band. I got into them when someone told be Grapow and Kusch were playing there, because their playing in Helloween's Dark Ride was amazing (one of my favorite Helloween albums). I was looking for more solid songwriting and in Masterplan I have found it again. Both their albums are great.

Yes, it is quite an excellent album. Dark Ride Helloween was the best (and still is) since the Kai Hansen days, and this is almost as excellent.

I don't think Aeronautics really deserves 90/100, it's a lot weaker than their first album, actually the only song I think is really good on Aeronautics is Back For My Life.. but that's just me.

everybody seems to enjoy Masterplan... not me ! I love Jorn's voice (Ark's 2nd album is his masterpiece imo) & enjoyed Dark Ride a lot (best Helloween album since Keeper 2.. by far !)... Unfortunately Masterplan bores me... the first album was okay but no song ever really hooked me... with this one (downloaded the promo a while ago) I tried even harder to get into those songs still, nothing happened but boredom again... :( I wish I could change my mind (since I really believe in the musicians' potential) but so far it's a 50/100 for me...

I have to agree with edge of forever, i also find Aeronautics to be a weaker album than Masterplan 1. Black In The Burn is the only track that makes me sit up and take notice - but then again i do prefer progressive metal to melodic power metal.
message to Jorn: its time to ditch the aeronautics and jump back on the ARK, imo.

Boring ?! You guys are nuts :P

I don't know if Aeronautics is better than their first album yet because i only had 2 full listen so far but it's a good damn album that's for sure.

Also , i have an hard time with the "power metal" label of this album.Sure , there are PM elements in the music but overall it's much more "heavy hard rock" oriented imo.

From what i have heard so far , i ll give this a 85/100

I agree with the rating, ive been listening to this album for the last 2 weeks, i say is not as good as the debut but it comes pretty damm close, is hard to qualify the music style, i say they're heavy hard rock mix with power metal and some progressive influences, i love theyre sound, ive been looking forward to this album since i heard the first one. First thing is Lande's voice is amazing , the dude just has some huge vocal pipes. second i like how they mix the heavy speedy tracks with the slower tracks, overall a solid second album i hope these guys stick around for a long time.

This album along with the new Kamelot, the Circle II Circle album and hopefully the new Pagan's Mind , it should be a great year for Metal overalll. Both Kamelot and Masterplan haven't dissapointed so far. Ohh yeah how could i forget the new Operation Mindcrime II, although i have mixed feelings about that one, maybe for another day.

I have heard the promo for The Black Halo and it's absolutely BRILLANT !!!!

One of the best album i have ever heard and i am damn serious about it .I was not that impressed by a power metal album since LH - Awakening the world and Blind Guardian - NIME.

Can't wait to see the review here :)

I spent the last days with listening to the new Masterplan album and I have to say that it can keep up to the first one. For me it takes always a few spins before I'm able to judge an album, because I somehow have to know the songs when I listen to them in order to give a proper judgement.
So if you don't like the CD or think that it's worse than the first one I suggest to try the same method and listen to it some more.

And just by the way: the Headbanger's Ballroom is is a metal club in Hamburg, Germany so the dedication is much more specific than it was mentioned in the review. The Masterplan guys live in that area and had the Aeronautics release party in that club.

I gave this album about a dozen spins before ever considering judging it... and I'll stick to what I said before : boring ! I wish it wasn't that way since I love Jorn's voice & hoped the band to sound more like a mix of Helloween's Dark Ride & Ark's Burn the Sun... Unfortunately none of the 2 Masterplan albums are up to that... :(

Well i think in my opinion what sets them apart from Ark and Helloween is exactly that, they have theyre own sound and they don't sound like a Helloween or Ark clone although the Helloween influences are still evident. Is hard to describe, is somewhere in between and with a little more progressive influences in this one, i think is killer. I also say this because i never really liked Ark that much, i mean apart from Lande's vocals, i didn't think it was that great, but Dark Ride was awesome though, great album. :D

Honestly I didn't really care for there first one. I thought it was way overrated just like the new Edgay albums is. There were a couple good songs but for the most part pretty boring IMO. Jorn is a great singer though. I did like Ark BTS album quite a bit....

I have heard that this album (Black Halo) is heavier than previous albums. Would you say that is true? I have always liked Kamelot but wished they would be a little heavier........

Ive been listening to the new Kamelot album for the last few weeks, i say is heavier in the sense of guitar distortion, not necessarily as speedy as other albums from them, but heavier as in Conception guitar heavy, if you heard theyre stuff you know how they sound, there's more progressive elements in this album then the previous and is something about that slow build up songs that Kamelot does mixed in with Khan's amazing vocals that just puts the album over the top. Ohh and i have to say that the song Memento Mori is the longest song Kamelot has done so far and is awesome, prob my fav on the album. I cant stop playing this album, it rocks man!
