Drivel. Good cause, but Natasha was also drivel. How anyone could get enjoyment out of listening to Natasha is beyond me. I do like Half Dead though so if the second track is like that I might pick it up.

^^And Natasha was only about 10 times better than that In Flames garbage you just praised, so I guess we are even.

Getting to this ep, I was impressed with the second track, but really disliked the former, so I guess it was, as Trapt noted in his review, more of a teaser for the potential of a full doom album than anything else.

Really, you think Natasha is better than In Flames "Whoracle" or "Sense of Purpose". Well, I guess you must have a way deeper understanding of music than me cause Natasha sounds to me like a bunch of controlled feedback mixed with dissonant chords played at random intervals and dripping water sounds. It might be cool to play in a haunted house as background music. I guess I just don't get it. You must be way smarter than me and a much better musician.

Why someone would like Natasha: at about the ten minute mark, Natasha cuts the weird feedback droning and dips into some weird twisted doom riffing before dropping back into the feedback business. Maybe you don't like doom metal so that won't win you over, obviously you don't like drone because Natasha is really awesome drone that doesn't resort to post-rock digressions to cater to folks.

And then at about 20 minutes after the water dripping, you get more straight forward riffing that, with Hayes vocals not distorted or snarled but distant and melancholic, sounds kinda beautiful and that's super interesting coming from PD. And then they just crush that with a nasty riff and some screams.

Didn't much care for the first track, the second is solid. The cover art is badass though.

Fair enough. I don't get it. Not my thing. I will admit that those parts you speak of are pretty cool, but there is a lot of, IMHO drivel, in between. You are correct that I'm really not into drone. I honestly just don't have the time or don't care to take it. I guess I just don't see the purpose in the long drawn out ambiance. I realize that they are going for a feeling there. I don't know. I guess I just got irritated when I listened to it. It's artsy. I get that, but I don't like it. It's just my opinion. Maybe this summer I will play it when I'm floating down the slough at night drinking beers. Maybe I just need the right setting. As you can see, I'm very opinionated, but I'm also open minded; if that makes any sense. Basically, I form strong opinions, but if someone who I respect explains why I should take a second look I do it for fear that I might be missing something really cool. That's actually why I started posting.

It's not what I listen to prior to going out partying. It's definitely for settings in which I want to let it play in the background like when I'm reading or when I'm toning down the energy for the night like after I get home from school or something.

I never said I liked this better than Whoracle, should have clarified that A Sense of Purpose was the 'trash' I was referring to. Who said anything about brain power?

Pop music, no matter how competently done, does nothing for me. I like funeral doom, you know the 20 minute songs with one chord a minute? I also like this. Does this make me pretentious in principle?

Better to be pretentious than count garbage like "Sleepless Again" among my favorite tracks, I suppose.

Maybe if you weren't so pretentious, you wouldn't think it was garbage!

I would be lying if I said I've never been like that so no hard feelings. It's not like I don't like long doom stuff entirely. I did really like Disembowelment back in the day and Cathedral is one of my all time favorite bands. They went what you would consider pop on some albums too though. I take no offense. If "A Sense of Purpose" is a pop album, I'm a pop fan cause I love that album. I like what I like and it is what it is I guess. All that being said, I will give Natasha another chance sometime and try to find the greatness cause I have a tendency to be kinda jerky sometimes. I did listen to Evoken "Atra Mors" though and that album is really something special. That's a band I see myself really getting into. As far as "Sleepless Again" being garbage, one mans trash is another mans treasure right?
Peace out my metal brethren
