I've been waiting for this review to come out ever since the limited edition landed in my mailbox. It's definitely not the Black Halo (I'm not sure anything will ever be), but it definitely ranks up there alongside Karma for me. Its a great output by a stellar band, and I hope the review is right when it predicts better things in the future.
The only thing I would disagree with here is the panning of the "Song for Jolee". I've read the story that comes with the limited edition and so understand how the song plays in with the bother's mourning a the untimely loss of their young sister, Jolee. Plus, its a good and sadly calming rest from the first few songs, all of which are quick and up-tempo.
Overall, though a stellar album. I might've scored it higher into the 90's, but then again I'm a huge fan anything Kamelot.

Nice review. But I had to sign up just to give my opinion on the album.
I've been reading the reviews here for years but finally registered. Hello everyone :dio:

Anyways, I have say you are right except for the songs Song for Jolee, Falling Like a Fahrenheit, and Solitaire. The first being a beautiful ballad, the second having IMO the best chorus on the album, and the last is simply a great song. Torn is another stand out song for me.
Veritas I love, except for the chorus is lacking a little IMO, the female vocals and the solo work are stellar. Prodigal Son is indeed amazing but it took the longest for me to fully appreciate. Overall, I'd rate Silverthorn a 90-92, to me it's their best since The Black Halo. Maybe not as good but close, and quite a nice surprise.

Welcome! Thanks for your thoughts, and I am glad that you all disagree. All of the songs have their merits, just depends on who is listening :)

With Veritas, I think that is the strongest chorus on the album. Not sure why per say, maybe the chanting aspect of it, but just enjoy blasting it out my speakers.

Geez fuck you'd think I would have been the first to listen to this but the box set is still on my desk unopened and I have no clue as to why I haven't touch it outside being too busy these days.

Sounds like a less intriguing Seventh Wonder album.

Sounds like a less inspiring Cher album, oh and these guys have sucked for a long time. I wonder how anyone with testicles can actually stomach listening to these guys, even as terrible as Enslaved are at least they play metal.

Ah there you are, was wondering when you would crawl out of your hole.

And please do tell, which Cher album do you find the most inspiring?

The one where Kahn comes out of the closet.

Hahahaha funny stuff on here. Anyway, I actually had my first realization that Kamelot is back cause I had a dream with the first song on this album in it, Angel of Afterlife. I hadn't listened to it for a few days either so it's definitely got me. I would score it in the low 90s right now, but I haven't had enough time with it. So much stuff has come out in the last month, including Grindcore Karaoke, that I am sort of overwhelmed. The new singer sounds great though. Actually has a darker vibe which I kinda dig.

Great review, my only complaint is that the rating is sub-90!

I would say this is their best album since Epica (better than Black Halo) after a few weeks of listening.

New vocalist is great, and conveys a wider range of emotion than Khan. Khan is very emotive, but Karevik gets so into character sometimes, it's as if he's an actor, going from passion, to hope, to guilt, to pure sadism.

Also, the melodies are catchy yet less predictable than anything they've done in a long time. The chorus of Torn and to an extent, My Confession just feel fresh in the melodies as if they're in minor modes we don't hear much of in metal.

Also, sounds more progressive this time, with hints of Dream Theater and Aspera. Youngblood actually has good solos too.

And yes, the one-two punch of Veritas and My Confession is one of the best in a while.

Thanks again for reviewing!

I WILL see them live this saturday. Last time I tried I was stopped by an Icelandic vulcano, so I didnt get to see Kahn. I guess it was an act of faith. This time I almost was stopped by SAS, but I WILL see the swede sing in one of my favourite bands. Greetings from the end of the world. North - Norway.

Nice job Cory, great review. Kamelot did a simply massive social media campaign leading up to this album, and it seems to live up to it. Tommy's vocals are remarkably similar to Roy's, with equal emotion and range. This ranks up there with Epica and Black Halo for me.

I'm not sure where I would place this one. I don't think it tops Ghost Opera, just not enough remarkable moments or memorable songs. I'd put it about as good as or a tad better than Poetry to be honest. Still very good tho.

After about 7-8 more listens, I'm going to upgrade my score a but. I'm really enjoying this one.

listened to it a few times since wednesday.

i really enjoyed it. it's not as bombastic as Epica (their best album, imo), nor as dark as The Black Halo. carries more faster-paced songs than the latter, which made me happy. the Kamelot attention to detail is there, the new singer shines, and imo it's a return to form, with an album that's at the level of The Black Halo for me. i notice a slight pop sensibility here, especially in songs like Solitaire. not complaining, just pointing it out.

on the downside, i don't care much for the ballads or Prodigal Son. i do think it could have been broken down - but i admittedly don't care much for long songs in general. it's not a short album, but skipping the ballads, the intro/outro, and Prodigal Son, you're left with a short little album. on the other hand every other song is great.

i never really gave Poetry for the Poisoned a chance, but the review and my experience with this album made it my album to discover over the weekend :)

finally, OMFG is the video for Sacrimony cheesy as fuck or what?
