I'm sorry, Chuck. I listened to the first track and it didn't amaze me. But then neither did Cold of Ages. While I loved their s/t, I am one of those who think they have become repetitive. They've lapsed into this jumping between Darkthrone and ambient that just doesn't work for me. Their s/t had winding and complex structures to each twenty minute jam, not constant on and off, back and forth that they have lapsed into the last two releases.

Their s/t is easily one of the most incredible black metal albums I've ever heard. Never got into Cold of Ages but I still want to give this a try.

Re-listened to the self-titled today. It never plays into a simplistic shifting between styles; it tends to merge the two styles so you have really blast-y Darkthrone type moments, but with howling atmospheres in the background. It works that way, but they've stopped doing that and seemed to have taken a weaker approach to writing in my opinion.

Giving this a full spin and it's pretty fucking awesome. The last five minutes of the B side are fucking amazing. Listening to it again, it strikes me more than Cold of Ages ever did. This definitely puts them at the caliber of the s/t. And I can see more of where your praise is coming from, Chuck, despite the fact that I didn't like their demo. And I need to check out the Fell Voices split still.

Never listened to them. I guess I should since you and Charles are so fond of them.

Self-titled is amazing. And Charles raves over that Fell Voices split, but I've never given it a go.
