Yeah. The review got me to listen to the first track with that line, because I distinctly remembered Devildriver not being death metal. Oath of the Abyss wasn't exactly bad but it sure as hell wasn't death metal either.

Mabye more melodic metal I guess, but I don't even feel comfortable labeling them that for some reason. They are definitely more groove than anything.

Not traditional death metal by any means, but the "death metal" tag has changed so much over the year. It fits here, but not as a standalone "genre" signifier. Groove metal? Sure, that's there. Melodic death metal? There at times as well. So, what, alternative death metal?

Either way, this is a solid album, but not their best. Still think The Fury Of Our Makers Hand is their best work to date.

I agree. Fury of Our Maker's Hand is hard to top. Probably when they sounded the most "melodic" was Fury and The Last Kind Words.

My fave would definitely have to be The Last Kind Words. Fury is great too though. This one doesn't exactly reach those heights, but it seems better on first few listens than Pray for Villains

I can find no redeeming qualities in this band. I am on a work trip so I was listening to liquid metal out of curiosity. The song Ruthless was number one on the Devils Dozen. It has nothing memorable on the song whatsoever. Am I getting to old? I just need something to latch onto. I'm a grind fan too so it's not that I need it to be pretty. I love Gorguts new one. Devil Driver just sounds so plain. It's like dunderhead metal.
