This album shares company with a select few champions of the genre. Albums like Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk and Nemesis Divina. Black Metal was in it's prime; both creatively and technically. You will never hear bands or albums like this again. It was a time and place. These albums created a genre that has now been watered down and lost focus. Maniacs vocals are pure gargling darkness. This is the album I put on when I want people to leave my house. It works every time. It carries a evil wretchedness that has never been matched. I still follow Mayhem and agree that Ordo Ad Chao is an incredible album. Mayhem is an exciting band to follow. As Zad already said, it's always a little different and so far it has always been great stuff. Atilla has a more haunting or ghostly(not a reference to that shit band Ghost) feel to his vocals and Maniac has a more wretched gargling demon feel to his vocals. The music works well for both vocalists and I honestly could not pick one over the other. Mayhem has never compromised their integrity. I absolutely love this band and this album. The three best Mayhem albums in my opinion are Wolf's Lair Abyss, Ordo Ad Chao, De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.

Agreed on some of voxmonster's points. However, I'm a huge Grand Declaration of War and Chimera fan and really wish dead would have been on De Mysteriis.

This EP is a classic and short black metal records are awesome! Definitely groundbreaking and necro as fuck production. Ancient Skin and Fall of Seraphs are classic Mayhem songs.

I find Ordo Ad Chao to be the weak link of their discography, but that's because it isn't my style. I'm way more of an upbeat person.

I love Grand Declaration and Chimera also. Like I said it's hard for me to pick between the two vocalists. After reading your comments, I started thinking that it would be cool to hear what Maniac would have done on a new Mayhem also. I do love Atilla though and wish I could see him live. I've only seen Mayhem with Maniac. Mayhem always delivers IMO.

I saw Mayhem with Atilla in 2011, it was OK.

Honestly there's portions of the new song where Atilla is attempting to sound like Maniac and is pulling it off, while still maintaining the fact that he is Atilla.

It will be interesting to hear the new record and see if it lives up to what Mayhem is.
