Every time Epica releases a new album I say to myself, "Okay I'm going to finally start properly listening to these guys" and I never end up doing it.

BUT THIS TIME IT'S FOR REAL.

Maybe.

This is certainly a fine album, but I don't get all the hype surrounding it.
In my opinion Design your universe was more diverse and had some of the best songs they ever produced. On Quantum Enigma everything is solid but nothing really sticks out. To top it off, when listening to the album I can't stop but feel and think how by the numbers symphonic goth metal it can be at moments. The fact that the album drags on for a whooping 76 minutes doesn't help. This album would have benefited from a shorter running time.

Quantum Enigma is a huge improvement over Requiem for the indifferent, but it's hardly their best album or the masterpiece some people have been claiming it to be.

This is my Album Of The Year so far. After 5 or so spin i was thinking in the same vein as grandbazaar and thought it was pretty good but a bit overhyped. Now that it has grown even more on me though i think this is their best work.

Absolutely fantastic and very well balanced album. 93/100
