Wow the title track is so bad! Yet despite that I agree with your view that this is a good album and I very much appreciate the risk taking going on here. I can draw parallels from this album to my annual favorites: the marriage between acoustic guitar and electronics featured on Code Orange's live Under the Skin album and specifically the guitar motif on Icon resembling that from Oranssi Pazuzu's Ilmestys track. Gildenlow's vocals on Species (fortunately I can mostly block out the lyrics) are an absolute highlight: he runs the 90s gamut from Staley to Cornell to Reznor.

This type of music actually feels progressive to me as opposed to all the exercises in technical masturbation out there. I agree with your concern over missing riffs for the most part, but I'm glad the djent stuff only hung around for a couple tracks: if the choice is only between djent riffs or no riffs, load up on all that acoustic guitar!
