Since day one, other than metal I listen to country music, old rock bands and even some j-pop here and there. I've had certain people come and ridicule me for not being tr00 to black metal because of the other stuff I listen to. If that makes me a poseur, then so be it. The most important thing is to follow your heart. Fuck all nay-sayers.

I think its just a phase. When someone first discovers metal, he/she goes all out and listens to almost any band in every genre, and start calling everyone else (non-metalheads or metalheads who listen to other genres) a poseur. Then after time passes, they realise they don't gain anything out of it and that they're proving nothing to no one and nobody cares at all. He/she cools down and starts to realise that there is worth in other music genres as well. It's normal. In some instances, they even stop listening to metal, citing "growing up" as one of the many reasons.

Nice article. I used to like metal exclusively but over the past couple of years I've developed my tastes and basically grown up. I now don't consider myself a metal fan. I consider myself a music fan. Which doesn't dilute my love for heavy music one bit.

Nice work, probably the most interesting editorial on MR so far.

It was a nice read. I've had a "falling out of love" with metal earlier this year but I came back as a general music listener who happens to like metal best, like the writer. I'm enjoying metal even more right now. It's nice to hear somebody who went through the same things as I did.

I first listen to "normal" music, than discovered stoner rock and "manson" rock, passed to metal, now I listen to everything. Nice article. Exactly what I think.

Haha! Great editorial! I'm doing an editorial right now that will be a nice companion piece to this one. Should be done in a few weeks, I assume.

Listen to some Ani Difranco. :dio:

I think someone should do a barnstorming "WIMPS AND POSERS LEAVE THE HALL, IF YOU ARE NOT METAL YOU ARE NOT MY FRIEND" type of editorial. All about how one day mainstream weaklings would realise the error of their ways and beg for forgiveness type of thing. That would be awesome to read.

It's a good article, although increasingly nowadays on this forum it's preaching to the converted mass of "general music fans".

Good read. I too consider myself a lover of music in general, but I don't like metal the best. It's ok though. Posers are only those who act to fit an image they or other people have. People listening to a specific style only are more poserish than people who listen to what their heart tells them to. Although I don't like the term at all.

Interesting editorial. I'm kinda sick of hearing this whole "you kids are so spoiled" thing though. Times change, and just because music is more readily available doesn't mean you don't appreciate it. It may cause you to become more critical because you've heard so much music that just average doesn't cut it anymore. Is that necessarily a bad thing? I don't think so.

I'm glad someone else has realized that metal is no better than other genres of music. :P

PS. you actually would have to be pretty gay to actually like trivium. seriously.

There's almost an implication these days that you should be ashamed of your musical tastes if you prefer one genre over all others. Fuck that. 85% of what I listen to is Metal - not because I'm close-minded, not because I like fitting in and certainly not because of some misplaced dedication to "the scene," but because I like what I hear. A shocking concept, I know.

Except jazz, it sucks so you're allowed to hate it.
