I thoroughly agree with your review. additionally I'd like to say that the best pastiches are found outside of metal, ie, the "genre compositions" of John Zorn..

I don't agree with the reviewer and I love the album a lot, even if it's not classified as "pure" metal, or being original.

a very acurate review of a band that the typically 15 to 20 year old deems the ultimate metal experience. The tennis comparison is so accurate it is not even arguable.
Well done :)

The age doesnt matter, there are older people that dig this too. I am 17 and hate this album.

Indeed, that's an excellent way to describe it. Good job. This is one of my favorite reviews for albums I dislike.

indeed, age doesn't matter... I'm 34 and I enjoyed their previous works a lot... this one is sadly not as good as The Silent Circus was but it's still a fine album and a quite enjoyable listening experience...

Jason, this was one great review man. I was thinking on reviewing it but I'm glad you did 'cause I could have never done it half as good as you.

These guys change style so fast it's like if they suffered from ADD... this is like an ADD Metal album.

Anyway, it's very well executed, has some amazing riffs and some very good moments, yet, it still does feel too random at times and they mix all these genres for the sake of being "original" only, and not to create something beautiful IMO. But still, I would lie if I didn't say I enjoy it from time to time, so...

70/100 for me.

Yeah... metal alone is hardly diverse for that kind of treatment. Though to be honest I think Zorn's an awesome sax player but in terms of pastiche composition Mr Bungle > Zorn.

Sorry... a bit off topic.

For me, I don't really care how true the album stays to metal.

This was a pretty good review, even if I disagree with it, but I think its biggest flaw is that it looks at the album from a metal perspective rather than a musical one.

I think the overall blend in itself constitutes some originality, and there are also a lot of purely original moments as well--such as most of Backwards Marathon.

I understand that this album can be a whole lot to chew on at times, and often times may require a little more focus to the music just to enjoy it optimally. Nonetheless, I still like this release quite a lot.

89/100

Why is it considered original to steal from absolutely every genre of music and throw them into songs that sound like jarringly bad smoothies for the ear? It's not original. At all.

Good review, Jason.

39/100.

Hmm, very good review... although thats not why I dislike them.

For me it's more that they sound great whenever they aren't playing boring metalcore - their black metal parts, their soft parts and everything but their chug-a-chug boredom with fucking retarded sounding yells sounds GREAT.

But sadly most of the time on this disc is spent playing metalcore. =\

50/100

Excellent review, I agree quite wholeheartedly.

Yeah, like the super original way that they completely rip off the riff from Spheres of Madness for the opening of that song.

They suck because they suck, not because they're popular.

People who hate them just have to spend more time trashing them as a result of their popularity, and this is where that stupid arguement comes from.
