...nothing new in this one. It sounds like Mutter which was a very good album too.
Maybe more nice accordion (for conquering the grand'mothers ? ).
The song I keep in mind is Amerika. I like the text, catchy listening, and the guitar solo : an uncommon fact for Rammstein

So, I would rather buy the single Amerika because I already have their Mutter album which is quite similar in term of sonority.

98/100 appears to me too high, 90/100 would have been a better and a more objective rate.

With my first listen I'm a little disappointed. There aren't enough fast tracks. Almost everything seems to be mid-paced. So as far as this being like mutter... not really. The tempos and atmosphere are completely different. I really like the song Amerika though.

I do have a feeling it will grow on me over time, however.

You're right : Reise Reise is slower than Mutter, and perhaps less fascinating. But Amerika rules, lol !

I hate the song Amerika.

... everything else about the album makes it worth buying.

Mutter is better, but Reise Reise is quite note an easy album to listen to and you definitely need more listens to really appreciate it

however some tracks aren't that good, especially Morgensterne and Los which might be great as a B-sides, but not to be featured on a full length

give this album a chance coz it really deserves it

Well, I have all of their albums, so I might as well pick this one up as well. I can't say that I've heard any of the songs, but the comments about the lack of speed worries me a bit.

How does this album compare to Rammstein's second release? As much as I liked Mutter, I prefer their previous effort.

I'm only a few tracks into it and I'm quite impressed. Rammstein really has worked on some great aspect of of their musical style on this one. Mainly, the guitars are far more crushing than ever before. Their sound is great. Till and all the backing vocals sound INCREDIBLE. Clearly, this is the best album they've done in terms of vocal recording. Crystal pure sound vocalization. It also brings them full circle in terms of meaningful songs. A loose concept seems to pervade this album in terms of being about travels be it to another country or as in an exploration of other mental states. It needs further listens, obviously but I'm quite pleased so far.

So far it's my least favorite Rammstein album. It's good, but it doesn't rock me like the old three does. There are some great tracks though, like Mein Teil, Reise Reise, Dalai Lama and Keine Lust, but I don't care much for Los, Moskau, Amour or Morgenstern. I miss the speed, I miss the catchy riffs, I miss songs like Asche Zu Asche, Sehnsucht and Links 2 3 4.
I am a bit disappointed with this release, but I can understand the reasons why Rammstein wants to move on to more experimental music.
I'm sure it will grow on me though, but at the same time I'm equally sure I will never consider it to be as good as the first three.
But one thing is certain, Till has become a MONSTER on vocals! His vocals have always improved greatly between each album, but this time he has outdone himself! I wonder what he'll sound like on the next one... But I guess I'll have to wait another 4 years to find out :)

Tompa, I'm in agreement with you. I think 98 is a far to high grade for this after several repeated listens. At this moment it's my least favorite as well. It's still a great album and Till sounds great but I miss the speed and aggressive drumming and abrasive techno keyboard parts. "Moskau" is brilliant. 2004 seems to be the year where dance techno and metal are bridged with Nightwish's "Wish I Had an Angel" and now this track. I am also reminded much of the contributions of the 80's goth bands like Sisters of Mercy and industrial pioneers like My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult on this track. Their influence screams out here. Anyone here who speaks Russian, please translate the Russian parts to this song. "Los" really is a strange track but it does fit in with their travel motif especially when you think about American country music. It's an interesting track to put right before the sarcastic "Amerika." I think this track is going to be HUGE. The masked lyrics and catchiness are a sure fire winner for the band. If you don't speak german, I've taken the liberty of translating "Amerika." It loses most of it's poetic rhyming once it's translated though.

We're all living in America
America is wonderful
we're all living in America
America
America

When we dance I want to lead
when you turn yourself around alone
let us control you a bit
I'll show you how to walk right

We create a lovely round dance
the freedom plays from all violins
music comes from the White House
and in front of Paris stands Mickey Mouse

We're all living in America
America is wonderful
we're all living in America
America
America

I know the very useful steps
and I will protect you from missteps
and who does not want to dance at the end
does not know that he must dance

We create a lovely round dance
I will show you the direction
Santa Claus goes to Africa
and in front of Paris stands Mickey Mouse

We're all living in America
Coca Cola, Wonderbra
we're all living in America
America
America

This is not a love song
this is not a love song
I don't sing my mother tongue
no, this is not a love song

We're all living in America
Coca Cola, sometimes war
we're all living in America
America
America

Good job on the translation Jay! I really like those politically charged lyrics, especially the lines quoted give are a perfect metaphic description for what is happening in the world nowadays. I downloaded the album to see if it was worth buying, but I have already removed it from my pc in dissapointment. Rammstein made some nice tracks, but like some of you have already said, it lacks speed and strong riffs. Songs like Adios totally blew me away some years ago, but I am afraid none of the latest tracks did. Too bad.

Well unlike many of my countrymen, I do speak a second language. What my country does internationally saddens me and this response is more than appropriate. That's all I'll say on this issue. Keep this about metal.

 Post subject: Russian translation
PostPosted: Thu Oct 07, 2004 12:49 pm
So, this is the translation of Russian parts of "Moscow" song (sounds rather stupid, but here as it is... and sorry for my English):
----------------------------------------------------------------------
This is a song about the most beautiful city in the world... Moscow!!!
...
Moscow... One-two-three... Moscow... Let's see: pioneers here and there sings the songs to the Lenin.
...
Can't stand it... [Here i can hardly recognize which words singed by the girl, so here my suggestions only] Builded by monk... Silence for a while [or 'I must forget' - can't recognize this]... Let's go!
...
Moscow... One-two-three... Moscow... Let's see: pioneers here and there sings the songs to the Lenin.
...
One-two-three
...
When you hardly sleep at night... When you devotely(?) laying...
When you talk with me...
One-two-three... Moscow... One-two-three... Moscow... Let's see: pioneers here and there sings the songs to the Lenin.

Hmm, seems like Rammstein turned into a group of communists :)
By the way, why can't I post a Review here? I posted it in on the extreme metal forum instead now, you might want to have a look...

CrazyElf: Thanks a lot. Without knowing Russian, I somehow kind of guessed those were some of the words that were being sung.
