nice review Marty - i've been waiting for someone to review this for awhile ;)

i think the music in The January Tree is more hmm... predictable then their last effort

OK I hope I am not going to sound silly , are these guys anything like Pain Of Salvation ? How would someone compare those two bands ?

I felt in love with POS after listening to the "One Hour By The Concrete Lake" album. Never thought progressive could be so interesting. Dream Theater isn't exactly my favourite band although I do respect their work and specially the "Images And Words".

But between the two I would take POS any time.

They're a much more darker prog metal sound like POS but much different. They can be laid back and mellow one minute and crunchy heavy the next. I think Devon Graves is a better vocalist all round than the vocalist for POS and I think Dead Soul Tribe has a more eerie and atmospheric sound. If you like POS though, I'm sure you'll like Dead Soul Tribe. The January Tree is great but if I had to recommend one of their albums it would be last year's Murder Of Crows.......

I can't hear any similarity at all, at least if you consider the latest two albums of POS.
Imagine DST -very simply put- as a blend of SABBATH's heaviness and TOOL's atmosphere and the style of both. I also prefer Murder of Crows which is still a frequent listen one year after purchase.
