Great review for an awesome album! Sun of Tiphareth is still the best Absu album, IMO. But Tara is damn close to it. The lyrical theme and ramblings might seem like mumbo-jumbo to those who are uninitiated of the occult realm but they're quite deeply involved and more rooted in history than one would think.

For those interested, Tara is, put simply, the Celtic version of "paradise". It's also a real region in Ireland which has much historical worth and where many mythological events took place. There also exists a place in Eire (Ireland) known as "Tara Hill", which is closely tied to the album's theme, as the place has much meaning in Celtic history. It's also where lies a mound neolithic in date, refered to as the "stone of destiny" which is evoked in the album.

This Tara is not to be confused with the Sanskrit goddess Tara or the Druidic Tara (older form of Terra, otherwise known as "Mother Earth").

Absu have released only one bad album and that is V.I.T.R.I.O.L.
I still prefer Melechesh a little more, especially production wise. This is although one of my favourite albums of all time.
95/100

One of the greatest albums of all time. The drumming here is unmatched, not technically maybe but it's entertaining enough to make me listen to this for the millionth time, focusing on the drums.

Absu are a band I've always meant to check out but never did. I assume Tara's a good starting point?

Definitely. I'd suggest this order:

Tara --> The Sun of Tiphareth --> The Third Storm of Cythraul

Proscriptor's vocals are kinda generic, but there's loads of energy in them so they always stand out to me.

Great album - 90/100

Do you know, I haven't actually heard this album

I really dig Absu though, great band, I think I may buy this.

This album is great besides all of the fucking interludes. They really ruin the vibe of the album.

great album, i love their brand of "riff-based black metal". you know?

standout tracks for me are A Shield With an Iron Face, Vorago and Manannan (after the long-ass intro).

i couldn't stand VITRIOL as it was too raw for my taste, but Third Storm was cool.

Great, great album. Proscriptor's drumming throughout is fantastic, and I really enjoy a lot of the songs on this. I think that my favorite is probably "She Cries the Quiet Lake," with "Stone of Destiny" being a close second.

I might have to get this. NOW. Sounds damn awesome, and I'm not overly familiar with these guys.

fantastic album that has yet to grow old, it still sees regular rotation and that can't be said of many black metal albums I own
