Did anyone check this band out? Thoughts?

I did, briefly, but the net was slow, so I'll have another go in a bit. What I heard wasn't bad, not sure I'd want to pay for four songs, though...

Support local music, sucka!

I can't imagine it costing much, it's just an EP. I really, really like it. It's not really my style of music, or not what I'd normally reach for, you know?, but it's damn good. Each song is excellent.

True, but considering I normally buy older stuff at cheaper prices, paying for an EP when for the same price I could get an album doesn't make sense. I'll try it again, though...

Edit: not bad, not that great.

I just downloaded their record from iTunes Music Store and it only cost $3.96 (4 songs @ 99 cents each.) A good price in my book. I never see used cds for that cheap.

I also really like it.

I read the review and listened to the clips, and I kept thinking something about them sounded vaguely familiar without knowing exactly what. Is it just me or do they seem like more along the lines of gothic / death rock than metal?

They seem pretty metal to me, but admittedly more in the way that uriah heep is metal than rhapsody is metal. they definitely have more "goth" in their gothic metal than most gothic metal bands.

maybe metal is in the eye of the beholder.

There are rock elements, but I think if you listen to the full songs you can hear more metal than rock.

This sure sounds boring. The chick singer is awfully out of tune sometimes. Maybe when they release a full album they'll sound better.

Ken why did you give this a score ? Wasn't there a policy or something to not give scores to anything under 30 min. ?

Exactly where do you think she's out of tune? I studied voice and she's dead-on through the entire cd.

In fact, I would say she's an excellent singer.

Oh how fortunate that you studied voice so that you can correct me so politely.

Just so you know I haven't studied voice and I couldn't care less if she is really out of tune or not. It's just how I hear it and she is not among the better chick singers I've heard. Maybe it's because of the production on the EP but I doubt it.

sorry, i didn't mean to sound all elitist with the voice study remark, just noting that i know good pitch when i hear it.

as for how good she is compared to other singers, i'll clarify she's excellent considering this is their first release, so let's give her some time to develop. christina scabbia was very good on the first lacuna coil ep, but it took a few more releases for her to reach her to live up to her potential.

No harm done, there is a campaign going to eliminate all elitism on MR and this is a good start.

I'll take your word about the singer, but she still doesn't sound that good to me. You know it's not only how she sings but to what music she sings. I didn't like the music much so this may be another reason to find her unspectacular. I'll be sure to check this band again when they release a full album just to see if she improves.

Welcome to the forums btw. :)

Dude, that's a ridiculous statement. Out of tune? Not even remotely close. I can see how this may bore some people, it's not hard hitting, in-your-face music. Music like this is about subtleties, it's slow, but intricate in its simplicity. You have to open yourself up to it, then everything falls into place. If you were looking for something to kick your ass, wrong band.

I stand by my review, it's a great EP.

As for the score...well... Shhhh! Muthafucka!

I cleared that "out of tune" thing 2 posts up.

As for the music... well i've been listening stuff like that for quite some time before I discovered Stratovarius and Sonata Arctica. Gothic metal is all about subtlety and I know that all too well. The only metal i'm not open to is raw black and brutal death. This simply I don't like.

DOH! I didn't see that. Sorry.

OK, you're welcome to not like it.

Hey...

I just wanted to say that I appreciate both the criticism and praise on my vocal abilities...

I admit I have much room for growth and improvement. I am still learning how far I can push my voice.... and I am also my biggest critic and never profess to be a great vocalist. But, I am better than some.

I am happy that there are some of you who enjoy the EP. It is definitely more of a demo....

Our full length promises to deliver much more in terms of depth and production quality. For those of you who care... please keep an eye out for it in early 2007.

xXxX
