Probably get this sometime, as much as I like them I find Dream Evil frustrating, sure they have some killer songs on their releases like "December 25th" off the live album extras disc, but also lots of flllers. Dream Evil have the ability to release something awesome.

I'd say that this is a huge disappointment after United (their best album, IMO). Still a very solid album, but it's not nearly as catchy and the songs are all to similar to one another. It's far from the Dragonslayer / United level of quality, but an entertaining listen nonetheless; your review was pretty much spot-on, Marty.

Lost Horizon is far away from "cheesy power metal" and cannot be compared with such a band as Dream Evil or bands singing about the "glory of metal", warriors, battles etc.
That was a poor comment.

+1, that was a disafortunate comment from the reviewer. About the album, it's very mediocre, like always. Dragonslayer is the only listenable effort from this overrated band.

I am in the camp that I'll take B-grade songs with A++ production over A-grade songs with B=class production. Fred one of the masters, so as long as the production is excellent, I can tolerate songs that take a lot of listens to start enjoying.

I mean, i'm like anyone else, if I listen to an album enough times, I will eventually like it, unless I have a negative reaction to begin with.

I really hated firewind's allegiance the first time I heard it, but some of those songs are masterpieces now that i've come to warm up to it.

I was thinking the same thing. Basically he's saying he enjoys generic music with good production?

Not sure I'd call B-grade music generic. But it's still a weird comment.

No, I was saying I enjoy "good" music with outstanding production over outstanding music with "fair" production.

I can't stomach poorly produced music, or mono mixes. No 60's music for me, thanks, or anything that is hard panned or used less than 8 recording tracks.

Hm, strange. Production generally matters far less than songwriting does, to me.

Personally, I'd choose to fuck a virgin in street clothes over a whore in a dress any day of the week.

But that's just me.

I'm pretty intolerant of bad songwriting or bad production. Too much good music out there to waste time with stuff that gives me a headache to listen to.

As far as analogies go, that was pretty poor... The whore's probably a better lay- more experience, more know-how, whereas the virgin wouldn't know where the fuck to begin.

He was being clever; he'd rather have tr00 music that hasn't sold itself to the mainstream rather than some sellout trendy whoremongers who have breakdowns and stuff just to sell albums.
