Oh man...this was such a fantastic show! I was utterly disappointed in Leaves' Eyes, as was mentioned in the review, the atmosphere of the band was completely lacking for this show which is completely integral for their sound. However, Blind Guardian absolutely blew my mind. They were flawless in every way. One of the best live performances I have ever seen, and I have seen quite a few.

When these guys played in Sweden I was lying in my bed with the cold of the decade. Worst day of the year for me

Oh man, that night was amazing; seriously one of the best concerts I've ever been to. Just some corrections: They did play one song from A Night at the Opera that night (And Then There Was Silence), and to add to your setlist, they also played This Will Never End, The Script For my Requiem and And the Story Ends. But your review got the concert down pretty perfectly, and I too am dissapointed they didn't play Majesty after we chanted for it at least four times (especially since they played it in Toronto.. Eww.. Toronto).

I went to their show in Cleveland on the 24th, and it was great. I was waiting for a long time to see them. The show was great and the setlist was similar to the one in toronto, they also played another stranger me, but I don't know why they only played two songs from the new album, although I can't complain beacuse I am a huge fan of Imaginations and Nightfall.
Leaves Eyes played also a great set, and the sound was good, Liv Chrsitine has a great voice and the compositions are excellent.

There were some chants for Majesty when I saw them last night too, but I'm guessing they just haven't rehearsed it for this series of shows or something. From what Hansi has said in some interviews, they are big into rehearsing all the songs that may be included on a particular tour. Maybe they weren't happy with how the times they did play it turned out. Who knows? Still, the show last night was awesome, and I'm hoarse today after singing along to every word of every single song :)

Hey brahm. Thanks for the corrections, i fixed my review accordingly. you know something, i was really light about it in my review but the fact that Blind Guardian didn't play Majesty really pissed me off. Not because i really wanted to hear the track per-say, but more because people pay a pretty big price to see the band which is performing for THEM and adding 5 minutes to your set-list won't kill anyone. I get tons of requests when i do my radio show and i seriously feel really bad when i don't have a track because i feel like im there to make people feel good and entertain, not to be.. well... Axl Rose-ish. I don't like letting people down. Anyways it was still a fantastic show and i'm only nit-picking on small points. Are you going to any up-coming shows? i'm at most big shows which come to montreal with my brother or some friends so warn me if you are and we'll down a few Molson Dry's. Keep rockin.

Blind Guardian is the kind of band that goes out of their way to please fans though. If you look at the way the live DVD came about - using fan votes to determine the setlist, putting on a massive festival more expensive than their budget would normally allow them to, etc. - I doubt they just avoided Majesty for no reason. I mean, they played their asses off where I live despite the smaller crowd/fanbase here. You would never have known they were playing to anything less than 50,000 people last night.

Believe me. I understand. When they came back for the encore, there were Majesty chants, but it never materialized, and since I'd rather hear that than Imaginations from the Other Side, it was a little disappointing.

But damn, it was a good show. Maybe it's just too tiring to play Majesty AND And Then There was Silence

Ya, I know what you mean. Considering that they've apparently played it at other shows due to fan requests, it kind of pisses me off too that they didn't. Still, it was an incredible concert, and I'm not going to complain too much about it (they should probably just learn to leave it in their setlist permanently). As for upcoming shows; might be going to Children of Bodom with Amon Amarth, definitely going to Metal Church; Also will be going to Destruction and Sadus in Febuary, and I'll be there. Definitely be cool to knock back some beers with you (though I'm a Labatt man)... You going to any of those shows? If not, any cool ones coming up that I'm missing out?

Senor Dascal ...

I didn't see them 4 years ago, and when this show was announced in the spring ... i couldn't wait.

I can nit-pick all i want ... they didn't play Run for the Night, Lost in a Twiglight Hall, Precious Jerusalem, Lord of the Rings, Punishment Divine, Last Candle ... and their best song Somewhere Far Beyond ...

I was chanting Majesty as well, but i don't think it should taint the show at all ... I don't know much about the business (or how they decide on the setlists) but they can't just improvise on the fly and add an extra song (isn't everything planned according to the lights, screen ecc.) Wasn't that the reason for the 2 shows (the DVD)

Hansi's reaction when he came on for the encore was the best ... his face when everyone was chanting Majesty.

The Live CD is different, they just take a bunch of songs from different arenas and carefully edit it. I'm guessing they took a venue like the Medley (everybody chanting) and carefully edited from another show with Hansi saying "if you want it, then you'll get it, this one's called Ma-Jes-Ty"

Regardless ... this guy's voice was beyond belief ... and that made the show all the better. I wasn't worried about Thomen not being there ... Frederik is great

I was surprised most people knew the songs from ATITM (except for Skalds and Shadows)

Didn't expect them to play And the Story Ends. Probably one of the best of the show, if i had to choose.

Ciao

Yup, i should be going to all of those shows providing something doesn't come up. I'm going to children of bodom for sure with some peeps even though its going to be packed with kids and they're going to disappoint me again in sum... but hey, seeing them playing a few classics will be alright. Send me an email a day or few days before and we'll rock it at the venue.

P.S: If you're going to drink Labatt, you may as well go totally Quebecer pi boire d'la 50 s'ti!!!

I went to the one in Philadelphia. I'm sorry, but Leaves' Eyes bored the hell out of me. Except for the male singer (who kept screaming about Viking metal) no one in the band really seemed like they cared. Blind Guardian was awesome, although I really wanted Time What Is Time and This Will Never End, but hey, we can't win em all. Philly also had the Majesty chants, but Hansi responded with "Let me think about it....um...no." Disappointing, but oh well. The show was still really damned good. I do think they focused on the Nightfall and Imaginations CDs a but to much, but considering this was their 2nd American tour in there 20 or so year,s I can see why they are still trying to cover all the bases (for lack of a better term).,
