Decent album, nothing special but quite entertaining. Now that Ripper has had his shot at songwriting, I hope he lets the rest of the band in on the act a little more next time around. His writing is nowhere as strong as his voice. I really hope one day he finally appears on an album worthy of his amazing singing.

By the way - what the fuck is that album cover all about? It looks like it should be on some Good Charlotte fan's skateboard.

Good review. I'd rate it a little higher though, maybe 84 or so. It's enjoyable enough just missing that little something to make it a great album. Ripper sounds great though.

If all the songs were of the quality of "Scream Machine" this album would be a masterpiece, but as it stands it's still a quality metal album. Nothing amazing, but definitely nowhere near being bad.

Yeah I agree, almost everything is done right but the songs need to be better to make this album really great. A solid album though, still one of the best releases this year.

Except for the vocals I was "bored". I even heard a hint of hardcoreism in the vox at times. Bland power power chord driven guitar is what could not get me thru it :(

I'm not overly impressed with this one. Does anyone else find the lyrics range from borderline atrocious to adequate at best? You'd think that with the opportunity Ripper was finally given to express himself he would've made it count. I know it's his first album, and lyric quality usually doesn't bother me, but for some reason it ruins my enjoyment of the album.

Scream Machine is the best song, no doubt. Great tribute to his former band, Judas Priest. I was also pleased with Coming at You, as well, with the aggressive vocal delivery. The musicianship provides Ripper with a solid backbone to perform on, but nothing more. There are lots of good songs here, but nothing that really stands out and grabs me.

Also, I find some of the "sound effects", for a lack of a better term, to be out of place. For instance, at the end of the song The Faith, you hear cool haunting vocal effect reminiscent of what you hear in Halford's Crucible album. The problem is that the eerie vocal layering doesn't fit here, since it's a song about being true to metal :? The effect would be more suitable for a song about disturbing dreams or something.

Despite my critical remarks above, it's still a solid cd. 70 for me.
