This is not meant to criticize the review, but Grave Digger, Iron Savior, and Gamma Ray are also tired comparisons. It's sad to see such a unique genre of metal go stale. At least we still have a select few to look forward to. That list includes Gamma Ray, Iron Savior, Grave Digger, and Helloween. Not to mention the younger acts in the making.
Hey, Primal Fear are kicking my ass right now! I need the self-titled and a single to complete the collection! I'm an addict.
Sadly, power metal has always been a saturated genre. The difference is that now we're exposed to everything, whereas before the internet—or, rather, free music hosting sites like MP3.com, MySpace.com, IUMA.com, etc. where any band can post there music—we weren't exposed to so much. You had your favorite bands, you might stumble across a new band now and again, you knew your local bands, but that was pretty much it (unless you're a total fanatic like me). Now you can link from new band to new band to new band 24/7 on MySpace. We're bombarded with music these days from everywhere. That's cool, of course, because we hear bands like Dreamcatcher and Suspyre and Winterfell, bands we'd likely never hear of otherwise, but at the same time we get Totally Fucking Gay and Man's Evil, you know? And there are far more Man's Evils and Totally Fucking Gays than there are Suspyres and Dreamcatchers.
We just need to have thicker skin, I guess, and dig a little deeper, wade through the shit a little bit longer to find that 24K piece of corn.
