I'm probably in the minority that actually liked Winger back in the day.
Their s/t and In The Heart Of The Young are true classics but after that they went south.Pull just plained sucked not because it was different from their first 2 albums has but because it lacked the energy that band had prior.
I'm actually the polar opposite. s/t and In the Heart of the Young I think have their moments (Seventeen and Easy Come, Easy Go especially, both classics of hair metal), but overall they lack consistency. Totally up my alley in style and all, but when all is said and done they definitely belong with the overrated bunch including Ratt, Quiet Riot and post-Shout Mötley Crüe. Pull on the other hand I really love, the songwriting on there just strikes me as far more strong. Not as catchy and fun as Winger of old, but far more substantial and lasting in the long run. Yes, it's a 1993 release and one could argue they changed their sound because their old one was out of vogue - however, what they did is not turn grunge, but let their songwriting mature and crank up the heaviness a whole lot.
You simply can NOT argue with the song "Junkyard Dog" - the first time I heard it my jaw hit the fucking floor, and not just for sounding so different from Winger of old. Just plain amazing. Hoping for more of that on this album, it should arrive at my door in a couple of days.
