Heartwork reminds me of Lamb of God with keyboards, groovy and nice. Me like.

The genre definition you gave it set my hopes high, but Heartwork didn't do it for me, sadly. I think an industrial-ish riff's effectiveness is greatly defined by the production values, and this guitar tone is just too organic to get the right mood going. Regardless, the rest is a little bland as well.

It's not dreadful, but could be better. Really, only Blackened Industrial stuff seems to be any good nowadays, the only other band I've heard of recently being Threat Signal, and they're very 'corey. In a bad way, recent FF meets As I Lay Dying.

I know the bassist Carlos personally, and I'm a suspect when talking about this album. Sincerely, they fought hard to get this album recorded and they deserve it. Actually I give it a 90. I really don't think you can compare the album to anything Moonspell made (not even Butterfly FX) nor you can do it with, for example, Aborym. It's not fair and they even don't play the same style.

Have you seen the movie "Equilibrium"? Simple but yet fantastic futuristic movie. This album as some base on it, just listen to the intro on “Grammaton Cleric” (that's the movie Ken talks about on the review)! Direct URL for the info on the movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0238380/

And I am astonished to see a review to this album here. Nice to see you know them Ken! ;) They have a great future ahead

Ken, by the way, the release has been delayed because the album was re-masterized in the US, so it can surpass the flaws of the promo! So if you can get the retail version, you will be pleased to listen that some (or all) of the defects you "proposed" about production have been corrected. Buy this one people! I've already order mine ;)

I had already ordered it. The reason I have the promo is because Simao at Nemesis sent it to me because I ordered the CD back in February.

Now, let me explain my Moonspell comparison a bit (maybe I'll edit the review, too). Megadeth and Metallica have never sounded like the same band. They've been borrowing riffs off each other for years. The obvious would be "The Four Horsemen" and "The Mechanix," essentially the same song musically, but with two distinct vocalists the songs don't sound the same even though musically they're almost identical. Also, Megadeth's "FFF" steals directly from Metallica's "Motorbreath," Metallica's "The God That Failed" steals directly from Megadeth's "Dawn Patrol." Yet, each songs sounds like their respective bands, not the others, but the similarities are there.

Assemblent have similarities to Moonspell, they're there, but the spotlight is only shined upon them when Fernando sings on "Silent Cries." That song sounds like a Moonspell song. A metalcore singer could turn a power metal song into a metalcore song (albeit a weird one). You put Dave Mustaine on "The God That Failed" and it'll sound like a Megadeth song, put James Hetfield on "FFF" and it'll sound like a Metellica song. The singer can severely change a band, but in this case Sergio's vocals even have similarities to Fernando's. It's not an insult when I compare them to Moonspell, but being a huge Moonspell fan I definitely think it's there.

Actually, the vocals sometimes make me remember some of Emperor's on the Prometheus: The Discipline Of Fire And Demise album :D I'm also a Moonspell fan and I understand your comparisons, yet I do not agree very much with them (or it).

Well, you'd be glad to know I didn't pick up on that because I think Emperor suck! Hahaha.

That doesn't imply not liking the vocals on the album... :P

Listen to 4 full musics of the album here: http://www.myspace.com/assemblent

kiss kiss

"Assemblent's sound gathers varied influences, reflection of the different personalities of its members. Even though, bands such as Carcass / Moonspell / My Dying Bride/ Samael surface as the mainstay. The result is a Death/Thrash Metal crossed-over with futuristic landscapes."

SWEET!! You know what's funny? I don't know if bands have seen my reviews, or if it's coincidence, but since I did this review and the Moonspell review, three other Portuguese metal bands have wanted to get their music reviewed here! Hahaha. So much for there not being a big metal scene in Portugal. :?

LOL! I'm actually registered at the portuguese Metal Underground forum called http://www.metalunderground.org and I put, in the Assemblent topic, a link to your review ;) maybe it's because of that

If you want to listen to some portuguese bands, I'm preparing the section of links and it will have the homepages and myspaces, etc...., all of that organized. As soon as I built it I will warn you ;)

But if you want to explore the bands, go to the Bandas, Editoras e Distribuidoras section :D Have fun!
