Hmmm, I see where you are coming from. The new album sounds a lot different than Sonic Brew or Stronger Than Death, but in my ears it's not so much any drastic musical changes, just a bit more listener-friendly production and much more ballads. This may be just me, of course.
Now that you mentioned Sonic Brew, I really wish Zakk would bring more of those Pride&Gloryesque southern rock-jam elements into BLS too. They just ruled so hard. I really need to review Pride & Glory. So marvellous an album.

I disagree with the "not much has really changed in the bands music" comment. I think this album is a pretty big departure in sound for the band. This is all relative, of course, considering since Sonic Brew he's pretty much released a new album a year. Compared to Sonic Brew this album is a world away, but compared to Mafia it's not so drastic a change, just more than expected compared to other back-to-back releases.
It doesn't matter, of course, because this album kicks ass as usual. Now comes the dilemma of buying this when it comes out or waiting for the inevitable Roadrunner reissue.
