I had the same issues with Cloudscape, where upon the first few listens I thought they were just another melodic prog/power band in a massive slew of that genre. But once I soldiered through my initial impressions, the albums start to grow on me more and more.

Fortunately, I got their debut album last year so I knew what to expect with Crimson Skies. Because of that, I was able to get into this new album quicker. I just played it about five times the first week I had it and from there it's a cakewalk to appreciating Cloudscapes talent in this genre.

I got this a few weeks ago and I think it's a really strong release, one of the best this year for me. The compositions are strong, the musicians are very solid and technical when it's required but never overdoing it, production is top-notch and I totally love the singer. His voice is amazing and can take so many different hues depending on the style of music. I can imagine him singing in any kind of heavy, power, progressive metal or even hard rock band!! 90/100
Also the track Demon Tears is killer! :dio:

Yes!!! Finally a review. Thank you Marty, it'd be great if you review their debut as well. Crimson Skies sounds to much like the stuff that Magnus Karlsson is involved in (Starbreaker, Planet Alliance and Allen/Lande)...catchy to the point of being AOR. Not necessarily a bad thing, though over time all starts to sound the same (problem I had with Planet Alliance - recycled riffs and melodies from Allen/Lande and Last Tribe albums). Cloudscape debut is much heavier and metallic sounding so that's why I find it superior to Crimson Skies. 80/100

I'll have to track down their first album then...I'm really digging Crimson Skies. The Lande/Allen....Last Tribe/Starbreaker comparisons are dead on.

Checked this band out on MySpace after seeing this review, and "Take the Blame" was a pretty sweet track but I wasn't impressed with any of the other three.

This is an awesome CD! :D
I've had it for several months (as I received a promo long ago) and I still like it as much now as I did then.... and stand by the 4.5/5 rating on the MCDR site.
