Its a great album that gets better with each listen. Far superior to the disappointing Starfall (though still a great album don't get me wrong), but I wouldn't quote it that high personally.

I would give it a quote in between 86 and 90 out of 100. While the songs are grandiose and very nice, Dragonland changed DRASTICALLY since Starfall, meaning they have a power metal that is more calm than before, the furious speed metal touch is pretty much dead amidst a song or two on each last two albums.

While I'm slowly adjusting to this, I miss the grandiose fury and galoping speed metal trade that made Holy War such a wonderful masterpiece.

Still, like I said its a great power metal album, much better than the last uninteresting Hammerfall or so blend Stratovarius or many other "big" names that failed to deliver with their late offerings.

My advice would be to listen to a song or two before passing your own judgement, but for sure its a quality driven power metal release, affirming Dragonland's direction which, while not my first choice, is still very good (perfection would have been to have an album a la Holy War with today's vocal perfomance + production, but maybe I'm the only one wishing for this).

Just my 2 cents,
Hope it helps,

Chris

This is quite good, even though it has been my only exposure to the band so far. It's a nice album to put on after a few hours of god-defiling, hate-filled blastbeats. :)

I listened to it, and of course to me it didnt sound like a 99, but still pretty solid.. You have to understand though that i am no power metal fan!

Ha, see? I knew this was good! Just kidding. Great album though, love Beethoven's Nightmare.

It's good, but nothing more. This is way over quoted. Nothing deserves this high of a rating. Excellent review though.

Btw, the lead singer's voice (don't know his name) has improved a great deal over the years. And I still stand by my "Contact is the best song of the year" statement.

I checked out Contact on their site, and it is a great song. I will have to listen to the whole thing ASAP.

The album just keeps on growing on me. And yes, "Contact" is nothing short o spectacular.

Is it me or does this sound like Infinite/Elements 1 era Stratovarius.

After having listened to this a few more times, I have come to the conclusion I really don't like the male singer's voice. It has too much vibrato on it for my personal taste, it comes off as sounding too forced to me. I must say though, "Too Late For Sorrow" has more radio potential than most of the songs they already play on the radio.

WOW, amazing deduction skills! So if you haven't heard about a band, they can't be good? Something tells me you haven't been into metal for too long.

What makes you think that? I agree with him. A 99/100, this should be everywhere. Their previous efforts wouldn't exceed an 85/100, but people overrate albums and tend to praise them a bit too much. If this were THAT good, than yes he would've heard of them. Don't be a dick.

If you read my post after that would know that i've seen them live and have heard just the one album. Also nowhere in my my first post did i say i have never heard of DL or this album. So yeah, don't be a dick.

I had a feeling this would be one of those 99's that is really closer to a 90. Oh well, still goes on my "To Buy" list...

Pretty ok album. Some moments are brilliant, some are not. Not a very consistent record.
